AbstractAbstract
[en] Absorption spectra are reported for Cd EDTA3-, Cd CDTA3-. Pb EDTA3- and Pb CDTA3- formed by the reaction of e-sub(aq) with Cd EDTA2-, Cd CDTA2-, Pb EDTA2- and Pb CDTA2-. Estimates are given for the stability constants of CD EDTA3- and Cd CDTA3-. The extinction coefficient at 320 nm for Cd EDTA3- is epsilon320 = (9.7+-0.9) x 103 dm3 mol-1 cm-1. The rate constants for the reactions of e-sub(aq) with Cd CDTA2- and Pb CDTA2are 1 x 103 dm3 mol-1 s-1and 1.9 x 109 dm3 mol-1 s-1. The rate constants for the reactions of H2O2 with Cd EDTA3- and Pb EDTA3- are 2 x 109 dm3 mol-1 s-1 and 2.5 x 109 dm3 mol-1 s-1. Some experimental data are reported concerning the disappearance of Cd EDTA3- in the presence of several alcohols. For the reaction Cd EDTA3- + Pb EDTA2- a rate constant of 4 x 106 dm3 mol-1 s-1 was determined. This value was compared with a value estimated by means of the Marcus theory. (orig.)

(orig.)Record Type

AbstractAbstract
[en] The rate constants for the reaction e-aq + EDTA were measured as a function of the pH by the pulse-radiolysis technique. Between pH = 6and pH = 10 this rate constant can be represented by the equation k = 4.7 x 106 x (fraction of HEDTA3-)+1.0 x 108 x (fraction H2EDTA2-)M-1 s-1. Also the rate constants for reactions of e-aq with the following metal-EDTA complexes were measured: CuEDTA2-, HgEDTA2-, CoEDTA2-, InEDTA-, NiEDTA2-, GaEDTA-, MnEDTA2-, ZnEDTA2-, CdEDTA2-, PbEDTA2-. Ionic strength variation indicates that the reacting ions are not hydrolized to an appreciable amount at pH = 11.5. It is found that some of the products show light absorption in the region between 300 and 400 nm. (orig.)

(orig.)Source

AbstractAbstract
[en] The radiolysis of aqueous solutions of Cu EDTA2- in the presence of a number of alcohols was studied by the pulse-radiolysis technique. After the reduction of Cu EDTA2-by e-sub(aq) a complex is formed between Cu (I) EDTA3-and the radicals resulting from the H-abstraction of the alcohols by OH and H radicals (.ROH). The absorption spectra for a number of these complexes are reported. For the following reactions the rate constants were determined in the presence of n-butanol as a radical scavenger (dm3 mol-1 s-1): Cu EDTA2- + e-sub(aq) as 6 x 109 (pH = 7); Cu EDTA2- + OH as 2 x 109 (pH = 7.5); Cu (I) EDTA3- + .R-OH as 4 x 109 < k < 5 x 109 (pH = 7.5); Cu EDTA2- + .R-OH as 5 x 105 < k < 1 x 106 (pH = 7.5) and ROH Cu EDTA3- + NO2- as 4 x 105 (pH = 7.5). The value of the molar extinction coefficient of ROH Cu EDTA3- at 440 nm is 5 x 103 dm3 mol-1 cm-1. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The construction of a computerized pulse-radiolysis system is described, employing an adapted multichannel pulse height analyzer system and an electron accelerator operating on a 25 Hz frequency. As a test for the performance the absorption spectra of e-sub(aq) and (CNS)-2, together with the kinetics of the formation of (CNS)-2 in aqueous solution were measured and compared with the published data.
