AbstractAbstract
[en] In June of 2003, Bechtel Jacobs Company LLC tasked Pacific Western Technologies (PWT) to perform a comprehensive audit of the Facility Acceptance Testing/ Container Analysis Tool (FAT-CAT), which is currently administered, by Bechtel Jacobs Company LLC... During this audit, a finding was issued on the subject of assigning historic Y-12 default radiological activity values to radiological containers, having no radiological data. Analysis of default radiological values versus known real radiological values showed the default values to be conservative as a place-holder for containers with no known radiological values. AbstractAbstract
[en] The decay of 44K, 44Sc/subg/, and 44Sc/subm/ to levels of 44Ca have been studied. For decay of 44K, approximately 125 γ rays have been observed using singlet, Compton-suppression, and γ-γ-coincidence Ge(Li) spectroscopy. The decay data, used in conjunction with recent reaction spectroscopy data, have led to the identification of 35 levels in 44Ca that are populated in β decay. The levels below 4500 keV are discussed within the framework of multiple vibrations. The levels at (J/sup pi/ in parenthesis) 3661.53 (1-), 3676.07 (2-), 3711.80 (4-), 3913.8 (5-), and 4358.42 keV (3-) are suggested as the two phonon quadrupole-octupole pentad

AbstractAbstract
[en] Observations of PHL 957 have been made with the Steward Observatory echelette spectrograph and with the Lick Observatory image-tube scanner. The stronger emission lines are found to have markedly different profiles, making emission redshift determinations rather inaccurate. No He II lambda1640 emission was detected. Wavelengths and approximate strengths of 203 absorption features are given, and two redshift systems (z/sub A/=2.3088, z/sub K/=1.7969) are shown to have a low probability of chance occurrence. Most of the lines observed shortward of emission Lα appear to be due to Lα in clouds of sufficiently low optical depth that Lβ is not detected. Systems A and K are similar in character to the absorption systems seen in 1331+170. The relative redshifts with respect to the emission systems are the same in the two QSOs and as such may provide evidence for Lyman line to Lyman continuum locking

AbstractAbstract
[en] Direct Numerical Simulation (DNS) is used to study the interaction of a laminar vortex ring with a non-deformable, free-slip surface at an oblique angle of incidence. The interaction leads to the well-known phenomenon of vortex reconnection. It was found that the reconnection process leads to rapid production of small-scale vortical structures. This phenomenon was found to be related to the kinematics of the reconection process.
