[en] The ³He-nucleus optical potential has been calculated in an extended folding model in which the first- and second-order terms are calculated separately, the internal motion of the ³He nucleons is included, the break-up of the projectile is simulated and the target excited states are coupled to the imaginary potential. An improved version of the Kuo effective interaction including odd-state forces and the projectile energy in the second-order terms is used in this model. The data analysis indicates that, in this model, the second-order potential must be calculated more accurately if agreement with experiment is to be obtained and that the backward-angle data are sensitive to the imaginary potential. A comparison has been made with previous analyses. (author)

[en] Alternative ways to the usual diagonalization procedures to solve the self-consistent nuclear Hartree-Fock problem are discussed. It is shown that they are much faster than the conventional approach and computationally much simpler. It is shown how they can be further improved. Finally all these new methods are unified within the framework of a direct minimization of the total energy in the subspace of Slater determinants. Results are given for medium-light deformed nuclei

[en] Measurements have been made of the (³He, ³He) and (³He, ⁴He) reactions on the isotopes of calcium ⁴⁰Ca, ⁴⁴Ca and ⁴⁸Ca at an energy of 50.4 MeV. The results have been analysed with conventional optical potentials and DWBA. The adequacy of the former and inadequacy of the latter for reactions with composite particles is discussed. (author)
