AbstractAbstract
[en] The rf cavity for the Booster Synchrotron requires a frequency swing from 46 MHz to 61 MHz at a repetition rate of 50 Hz and a maximum accelerating voltage of 62.5 kV. These parameters have been achieved [1], [2] on a prototype cavity at TRIUMF using yttrium garnet ferrites rather than the conventional parallel biased NiZn ferrites. The results of the tests performed on the prototype cavity as well as some of the problems encountered and their solutions, will be reported. (author) 4 refs., 8 figs

[en] The successful operation of the full scale KAON Factory Ferrite tuned Booster Accelerating Cavity Prototype allowed us to do ac magnetic field measurements in the tuner. The field measured is close to that calculated. The measured data are discussed. They may be used for reliable computation of the perturbation of the beam dynamics due to the ferrite biasing magnetic field. Methods to compensate the disturbing magnetic fields are discussed. 7 refs., 7 figs

AbstractAbstract
[en] A method for engineering design calculations of the metal-dielectric chain parameters used for carrying the electric charges in some versions of electrostatic accelerators is described. It is concluded that the requirements for permissible breakthrough voltages and energetic heterogeneity of the accelerated particle beam impose restrictions on the charge current at reasonable speeds of motion and dimensions of the metal bodies. On the other hand, it is pointed out that the requirements for high energy homogeneity contradict those for high intensity, and therefore, the metal-dielectric chain is more acceptable in the case of tandem generators. A design calculation for a rotor capacitive probe for a DC voltage measurement of a sinusoidal shape of the output voltage is given as well

AbstractAbstract
[en] The invention assures a reduced size of the supplementary electrode which leads to economy of a material and a more effective use of the accelerator space, where the elements of an axial injection system of the cyclotron particles can be situated. The amplitude homogeneity of the supplementary accelerating field is also improved. To the main high-frequency field, covering the whole scope of the acceleration radiuses, an additional accelerating high-frequency field is introduced comprising a part of the scope of the acceleration radiuses. The frequency of this additional accelerating high frequency field is a third harmonics of the main field frequency. The device consists of a supplementary accelerating electrode, connected to an additional resonator and an additional exciting high-frequency generator. 2 cls., 7 figs

AbstractAbstract
[en] Recently remarkable progress has been achieved in the development of perpendicular biased ferrite tuned rf resonators for fast cycled synchrotrons. Compared with the broadly used parallel biased rf cavities they provide higher resonator quality factor Q. However when designing perpendicular biased cavities, special attention should be paid to the methods to provide eddy current suppression in the resonator walls, the ferrite nonlinearity influence, the generated heat removal, the fast self resonant frequency control. The prospective of a faster additional biasing system are discussed and conclusions are drawn. (author). 8 refs., 6 figs

AbstractAbstract
[en] The proposed multi-purpose isochaonous cyclotron U-250 with a pole diameter of 250 cm is designed to accelerate ions with A/Z=2 to 6 (from proton to argon) with energies above the Coulomb barrier, and ions with A/Z <= 10(Fe, Ni, Kr) to energies higher than 1-2 MeV/nucleon. Similar to the U-200 and U-400 cyclotrons, its magnetic poles have four sectors, and the r.f. accelerating system consists of two 42 deg dees with quarter-wave lines. The frequency range lies between 7.5 and 15 MHz, and the operating harmonics are the first to the fourth ones. The maximum energy of the accelerated particles is W=204Z2/A. Owing to the small gap, at the chosen value of maximum magnetic field in the centre (1.9 T) the power consumption per unit of energy of accelerated particles is low

AbstractAbstract
[en] Calculation on an electron beam source with a variable intensity of the current on the output is presented. Such beams are planned to be used at surface metal treatment (casehardening). The problem of analysis and synthesis of source electromagnetic system is computerized with the use of display. When analysis is performed in calculated electromagnetic fields due to electrodes and solenoid, equation of motion for electron emission was solved. The synthesis (the choice of source optimal parameters) was realized by numerical experiment. The form of electrodes, their potentials, which produce electron beams with a cross section of 3 mm2 on output at 5A current have been found. It is shown that the variation of position of emitting electrode or of deflecting electrode potential could change twice the current on the source output

AbstractAbstract
[en] Perpendicularly biased frequency modulated cavities can already be designed with well defined parameters. Although the detailed design of the biasing system may be performed by using specialized computing programs, it makes sense to first do a conceptual design, based on feasible physics models. These models not only allow one to do fast estimation with reasonable accuracy, but are able to give hints for optimization when using the specialized programs. It also seems, that together with the means to provide thermal stabilization, the use of a low inductance fast acting system, separate from the main biasing one, makes sense. 8 refs.; 6 figs

[en] The results of effect of bombardment of Ag and NbTi films, by argon and nitrogen ions on texture and grain size are presented. It is shown that depending on irradiation conditions (ion energy of 4 and 5 keV, beam current density of 10-100 mkAxcm-2, irradiation time - 5-40 min) |110| and |111| texture could be obtained without employing heat treatment
