AbstractAbstract
[en] PDC with the cooperation of SSDL, had successfully conducted the modification and upgrading work on the neutron source exposure unit. The unit used for radiation monitoring equipment calibration, was often fail to function and difficult to operate. Through few discussion and detail study, PDC manage to point out the main problem, and proposed few modifications and upgrading work, to simplify the operation and increase the utilization of the unit. AbstractAbstract
[en] MINT with the cooperation of USM, has successfully conducted the research and development of a jet Pump or high temperature recirculating pump (HTRP). The R and D was initiated for the development of an equipment or tool which has the capability of handling, transporting or recirculating high temperature fluid either in liquid or gaseous form. Further study on the characteristics of the HTRP shows that, it is also suitable for other handling process, especially on radioactive liquid or isotope and corrosive material. Engineering Unit has conducted some experiment and development project applying the capabilities of the jet pump in handling liquid radioactive waste generated by Radioisotope Production Laboratory, Medical Technology Division. [en] Most of the irradiators owned by Nuclear Malaysia are imported from other countries. The irradiators are used for various applications such as Research and Development, agriculture and industry. There is a plan to develop locally made multi-purpose gamma irradiator in 9th Malaysia Plan which equipped with better safety features. This paper will discuss the basic requirements for the design of the irradiator. (Author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The radiotracer injector is meant for transferring liquid radiotracer in the system for industrial radiotracer application with minimal radiation exposure to the operator. The motivation of its invention is coming from the experience of the workers who are very concern about the radiation safety while handling with the radioactive source. The idea ensuring the operation while handling the radioactive source is fast and safe without interrupting the efficiency and efficacy of the process. Thus, semi automated device assisting with pneumatic technology is applied for its invention. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) is an electronic hardware which is widely used in manufacturing or processing industries. It is also serve as the main control system hardware to run the production and manufacturing process. There are more than ten (10) well known company producing PLC hardware, with their own specialties, including the method of programming and language used. Malaysia Nuclear Agency have various plant and equipment, runs and control by PLC, such as Mintex Sinagama Plant, Alurtron Plant, and few laboratory equipment. Since all the equipment and plant are equipped with various brand or different manufacture of PLC, it creates difficulties to the supporting staff to master the control program. The same problems occur for new application of this hardware, since there no policies to purchase only one specific brand of PLC. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Malaysian Nuclear Agency has more than 5 main facilities in handling processes based on nuclear technology. All these facilities can operate on semi-continuous or fully continuous mode. The facilities discussed in this paper are Mintec-Sinagama, Raymintex, Electron Beam (Alurtron), Gamma Green House and Isotope Production Plant. These facilities have been in operation for 15 to 20 years with the control and automation system imported from overseas such as USA, UK, Canada and Japan. This dependency on the foreign products has resulted in high cost of maintenance and upgrading. Therefore, measures should be implemented to build our own capabilities by transforming the control system from one that is based on foreign technology to one that is based on local technology. AbstractAbstract
[en] Nuclear medicine is the technique used to produce the image of the target organs by injecting radioisotope into the patient body for diagnosis. Therefore, it is important to ensure a clean and safe preparation of the radioisotope to avoid any contaminants entering human body. The preparation facility shall comply with the GMP standard requirements. A study has been conducted to monitor all important parameters of Malaysian Nuclear Agency GMP clean room. This paper will present the finding on the current performance of the clean room facility and suggestions to enhance the clean room performance in the future. (Author)
