AbstractAbstract
[en] Measurements of the β-asymmetry in neutron β-decay combined with the results of studies of O+ → O+ superallowed nuclear β-decay is now the best way to determine the nucleon vector and axial vector coupling constants. High precision β-asymmetry experiments at the ILL using PERKEO have significantly reduced the error. Unlike the direct neutron lifetime measurements, which formerly claimed the smallest errors in g/sub A//g /sub V/, the experiments that have measured the β-asymmetry are in good agreement. 8 refs., 4 figs., 1 tab

AbstractAbstract
[en] Experiment E645 at LAMPF is a search for /bar /nu///sub ν/ → /bar /nu///sub e/ oscillations using the proton beamstop as a neutrino source. The apparatus is a 20-ton neutrino detector and a cosmic-ray anticoincidence shield ≅26 m from the beamstop. No evidence for neutrino oscillations was found in the first year of data taking. The experiment is described and the limits on neutrino oscillation parameters from the data collected during 1987 are presented. 6 refs., 3 figs

AbstractAbstract
[en] Experiment E645 is a search for neutrino oscillations, employing the LAMPF beam stop as a neutrino source. Data collection is now underway, and we describe the experiment, the quality of the preliminary data, and the sensitivity to neutrino oscillations that we expect to reach by the end of the 1987 running cycle

AbstractAbstract
[en] An electron-positron spectrometer is being constructed at Argonne to search for correlated pairs emitted after heavy ion collisions. The trigger for this experiment requires the detection of a positron in either arm of the spectrometer. We describe the trigger for the experiment which selects events with positron annihilation radiation detected in an array of NaI crystals. 1 ref., 3 figs

AbstractAbstract
[en] A sensitive indicator of time reversal invariance violation in neutron beta decay would be the presence of a triple correlation of neutron spin, electron momentum, and neutrino momentum. The coefficient, D, on this term can be measured by detecting the decay electrons and recoil protons from a beam of cold polarized neutrons. Several extensions to the Standard Model allow a value of D near the present limit of 10-3. The authors report on the progress of an experiment to measure D at the Cold Neutron Research facility at NIST. The experiment utilizes an octagonal array of detectors with which the authors hope to achieve a sensitivity of D of 3 x 10-4
