AbstractAbstract
[en] The validity of the hypothesis that the angular distribution of shower particles produced in hadron - nucleus interactions can be parametrized by the number of slow particles emitted from the struck nucleus is tested. Relation between the mean number of slow particles and the mass number A of the target nucleus or the corresponding average number of collisions inside the target nucleus is found. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Parameters describing the multiplicity distributions of shower particles and evaporation tracks as well as the correlation between them have been analysed. The observed differences for pion and proton interactions at the same energy are consistent with the hypothesis that the relevant parameter which describes the production process is the mean free-path of the incident particle inside the nucleus. AbstractAbstract
[en] An experimental search is presented for the existence of intra-nuclear cascading which, for small values of the Bjorken scaling variable ω, is the only mechanism of particle multiplication in the target nucleus. Our data indicate that cascading does exist as one of the effective mechanisms of particle multiplication in μ-nucleus collisions. No significant variation of the observed multiplicity with ω is observed. (orig.)

(orig.)Primary Subject

AbstractAbstract
[en] An experiment was done at Fermilab with a nuclear emulsion target to search for the associated pair production of charmed particles by virtual photons from inelastically scattered muons. The experimental techniques used are described. About 100 events with an average Q2 of 4.6 (GeV/c)2 and v of 61.7 GeV were obtained. (orig.)
