AbstractAbstract
[en] A polarization in the K- fragmentation region of K-p → Λ + X, has been observed to be roughly energy independent and increasing with pt. These results are compared with theoretical predictions for scattering in a colour field. Special attention is paid to the kinematical configuration effects arising from the unequal fractions of momentum carried by the initial and final s quark. The main conclusion is that the striking features of the data do not seem to be incompatible with the behavior predicted from a QCD-inspired model. (orig.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] When used in lead-scintillator sandwich calorimetry, scintillating optical fibres offer a new way to achieve fine grain sampling and thereby to improve the energy and spatial resolution of a technique still unbeaten for timing and compactness. A small calorimeter element made of planes of 0.9 mm diameter fibres alternating with Pb plates has been built and tested in an electron beam. An energy resolution of sigmasub(E)/√E approx.= 9.8 and 7.8% was obtained with 1 and 0.5 mm Pb plates, respectively. The parameters of the fibres have been measured. Calculations performed with a refined version of the EGS code reproduce these results and suggest improved Pb-fibre calorimeters rivalling with Pb glass in energy resolution. (orig.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Experimental results and a partial-wave analysis of the low-mass (anti Kπ)-0 systems produced in the reactions K-p→anti KπN at 14.3 GeV/c. The main results concern the production mechanisms of the anti K* (890) and anti K* (1420). The s-wave component of the anti Kπ system as a function of mass is extracted. (Auth.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] New results on inclusive lambda polarization in K-p interactions at 14.3 GeV/c are presented. At the kaon fragmentation vertex, the polarization is compared to that from inclusive experiments at lower momenta and to that from two-body reactions with a Λ. As predicted by the triple-Regge model with Nsub(α) (or Nsub(γ)) exchange, the polarization is found to be independent of s and [Msub(X)]2/s. In particular it has the same value as that found in the two-body reactions. (Auth.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Results are presented of a bubble chamber experiment on K-p elastic scattering at 14.3GeV/c, in the four-momentum transfer range 0.042.74GeV2 using an initial set of 40000 events. The total elastic cross section is (2.96+-0.10)mb. The results are compared with K+p elastic scattering data at 13.8GeV/c, and the effective Regge trajectory is calculated using K-p data from 5 to 100GeV/c

AbstractAbstract
[en] A partial wave analysis of spin-parity of the (antikaon-neutral π+π-) system in the mass range M(antikaon-neutral π+π-)<1.6GeV is presented at 3.95 and 14.3GeV/c. An important contribution of 0- and 1+ states is found, the unatural spin-parity accounting for more than 3/4 of the events at 3.95GeV/c and for more than half at 14.3GeV/c. Natural parity exchange is dominant at both energies. A fit of the cross sections of several states to Psub(lab)sup(-n) gives n between 1.5 and 2.0

AbstractAbstract
[en] The first evidence for K* (1780) production in a non-charge-exchange channel is presented. This comes from a study of the reaction K-p→anti K0π-p at 14.3 GeV/c. Evidence for anti K*0 (1780) production in the charge exchange channel K-p→K-π+n is also presented. No significant Kππ, Kω and Keta decay modes are found. The decay angular distribution, the spin-parity assignments and the production mechanism are discussed. With plausible assumptions on the production mechanism, the Jsup(P) = 3- spin-parity assignment is favored. (Auth.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Results on the inclusive reactions K-p→K*-(890)+X+ and K-p→ anti K*0(890)+X0 at 14.3 GeV/c are presented. A comparison is made with previous data and with the reaction K-p→anti K0 + X at 14.3 GeV/c. Predictions of a triple-Regge model for the variation of the unnatural and natural parity exchange with the mass of the X system are examined. The experimental values of the structure functions are compared with those calculated from a quark model. (Auth.)
