AbstractAbstract
[en] To desrease the reduction of indications of the thermoluminescent glass dosimeters which are intended to measure total dose for a long period, a new temperature-time mode of measurements is proposed. An optimum temperature of a heating element is 360-370 deg C, the minimum reduction of the dosimeter indications is fixed when light sum is measured within the 2.5 to 3.5 s interval. In this mode of measurements the reduction of indications is only 10 per cent per month, or 20 per cent per year. This permits to decrease the dosimeter error 1.5 times as compared with the conventional one

AbstractAbstract
[en] IKS-A set of thermoluminescence dosimetry and a technique of personnel monitoring of beta and gamma radiation dose in skin are described briefly. The IKS-A set permits to measure a skin dose of gamma radiation with a boundary energy from 0.2 to 3.5 MeV and of mixed beta-gamma radiation at a gamma radiation energy above 250 keV. The range of the measured doses is from 1 to 2000 rad; basic measurement error constitutes (at p=0.68) +- (7+100/N)%, where N - readings of an instrument of measuring panel. A dose in skin is determined by a beta detector which represents a plate of thermoluminescent glass of 8x0.4 mm diameter (100 mg/cm2) coated with approximately 7 mg/cm2 thick non-transparent layer of a terylene film and aluminium foil or paper. The coating layer simulates a horny layer of epidermis. Skin dose may be determined by means of the IKS-A set in rare cases when radiation spectrum affecting skin contains in marked quantities long-wave gamma radiation with energy less than 250 keV. For this purpose it is necessary to use two more types of detectors and investigate the radiation field in the place of operations

AbstractAbstract
[en] The advisability of applying individual effective dose dosimeters ED-1 during manned space flights is considered. Thermoluminescent alumophosphate glass is used as a dosimeter detector. The study of time-dependent dosimeter readings has shown that the use of the ED-1 dosimeter permits to determine the effective dose to an error acceptable in practice (the time of dosimeter exploitation equals 3 months). When a series of solar flashes appears within the time of dosimeter using the error of determining the effective dose decreases considerably. At the same time the use of an integral dose dostmeter does not permit to take into account the actual temporal dose distribution, that is why this dosimeter can not be applied to determine hazards during long-term flights at high radiation doses

AbstractAbstract
[en] Results of a complex of laboratory tests of the TSL-150 thermoluminescent detectors based on the corundum monocrystals, are presented. Experimental detectors were tested simultaneously with standard ones made of lithium fluoride, IKS glass, magnesium borate and calcium sulphate. The conclusion is made that the TSh-150 detectors are suitable for X-ray and γ radiation dose control in personnel dosimetry, environmental dosimetry, geological surveys, archeology, radiochemistry, cosmophysical and scientific studies. The detectors incorporate maximum sensitivity, the lowest detection threshold and increased resistance to chemical and mechanical actions

AbstractAbstract
[en] A major task in emergency dosimetry at nuclear power plants is to measure discharges of radioactive gases and aerosols through the stack. A simple method is to determine discharges by thermoluminescent dosimetry (TLD). Since 1975, measurements on the WWR-2 reactor have been taken by using IKS TLD. The detectors were in cassettes sealedinto polyethylene film jackets and were placed at various distances apart around the diameter of the stack. The gamma dose due to radionuclide discharge is 30-270 mGy which is 20-300 times larger than the doses due to the natural radiation background, which were 1.0-1.5 mGy during exposures. The IKS dosimeters can measure up to 10kGy, which provides for determining discharge activities up to 10 EBq (108 Ci), where the routine apparatus may go off scale
