AbstractAbstract
[en] A compact Permanent Magnet Symmetric (PMS) lens which produces the axial magnetic field is studied. The proposed lens has no iron pole piece except for the return poles on both ends. It can produce the magnetic field on the axis more than the remanent field of the magnet material by the perpendicular field superimposition

AbstractAbstract
[en] High gradient low frequency RF cavities have been studied as an energy compressor for a short lived secondary particles with long bunch length. Although a ferro-magnetic loaded cavity can realize low resonant frequency in a reasonable cavity size, the high gradient requirement may not be compatible with it. This paper describes two types of high gradient air core (without ferro-magnetic load) cavities: simple but large (several meters) cavities and a set of high frequency (∼200 MHz) cavities that synthesizes the low frequency component as a beat

AbstractAbstract
[en] Acceleration of muon, short life particle, requires acceleration cavity with high field and low frequency. General theory of acceleration cavity, a cavity (f<10MHz) of PRISM and a cavity (f>20MHz) of neutrino factory are stated. On the cavity of PRISM, four examples are ascribed;1) Adone cavity at INFE, which consists of 4 cavities made of aluminum with about 5m diameter and 50kV max gap voltage per cavity, 2) CERN antiproton ring cavity, which generates 1MV using 2 cavities with 2.2m diameter, 3) Candidates for a single gap cavity at 6MHz and 4) Two gap cavity for long bunch. On the cavity of neutrino factory, the cross section of 26MHz high gradient cavity is shown and 1.5MV/m will be realized and space saving configuration is proposed. (S.Y.)

[en] A compact strong Permanent Magnet Symmetric (PMS) lens which produces the axial magnetic field is studied. The proposed lens has no iron pole piece except for the return poles on both ends which are required for magnetic field shielding purpose in some applications. It can produce the magnetic field on the axis more than the remanent field of the magnet material by the perpendicular field superimposition. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] A general eigenvalue solver for a large sparse symmetric matrix with zero eigenvalue solutions is developed using a subspace method. The technique for the large sparse system is a list vector; for a system with zero eigenvalues, a zero filter technique is added. The solutions can be obtained starting from the smallest eigenvalue excepting zero eigenvalue solutions. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Construction of a 433 MHz, 7 MeV proton linear accelerator is currently underway in Kyoto University under a three-year plan starting in 1986. The ion source, power source for it, RFQ main unit, WR2100 waveguide and a set of klystrons for RFQ were installed last year, or the first year of the plan, and the power source for the klystrons for RFQ, a set of klystrons for STL, DTL main unit, etc., are planned to be installed this year. Operation has not started yet because of the absence of the power source for the klystrons. Thus this report is focused on the considerations made in selecting the acceleration frequency of 433 MHz, specifications of the klystrons and the structure of the power sources for them. Based on considerations of the efficiency and cost of the accelerating tubes and RF sources to be used, the acceleration frequencies of 433.33 MHz and 1,300 MHz were adopted. The klystron selected is Litton L5773, which has a peak power output of 1.25 Mw, average power output of 75 kW, maximum pulse width of 2,000 μS and duty of 6 percent, and it consists of four cavities. The structure and characteristics of a klystron are also described. (Nogami, K.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The frequency tunability of the 4-rod RFQ is investigated. By moving the shorting plate between the posts, which support the 4-rod electrodes, the resonant frequency can be varied almost twofold. Model studies and the calculation of the field uniformity, the variation of Q, and the shunt impedance are reported. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] A compact steering magnet has been devised. The steering magnet has 'eight-pole structure'. The strength and its direction of the dipole field can be electrically changed. The outer radius, the bore radius and the length of the magnet are 120 mm, 14 mm and 60 mm, respectively. The effective length is measured to be 97 mm and magnetic field of 0.4 kG is achieved. The steering magnet is very useful under severe space limitation. (author)
