AbstractAbstract
[en] Isotopic shifts of Bi-isotopes using gas cell laser spectroscopy have become available. It is observed that the quadrupole moment of the even N isotopes of Bi-increases as neutrons are added or removed from the N=126 shell

AbstractAbstract
[en] The even neutron (40≤N≤60) isotopes of Rb are studied in the relativistic mean field theory. The two most widely used sets of Lagrangian parameters NL1 and NL-SH are employed in the calculation. For a given odd-A nucleus the deformed single particle orbital consistent with its observed ground state spin is blocked in the calculation (both for prolate and oblate solutions). The calculated ground state total binding energies, two neutron separation energies, and deformations impressively agree with the experiment. The calculated isotopic shifts reproduce the observed anomalous trend in the neutron deficient Rb isotopes for both the sets NL1 and NL-SH. copyright 1996 The American Physical Society

AbstractAbstract
[en] The relativistic mean field (RMF) theory is applied for the study of the ground state properties of odd-A Rb isotopes. The two NL1 and NL-SH sets of Lagrangian parameters are employed in the calculations. The ground state wave function for an even even nucleus has a time reversal symmetry, however, this time reversal symmetry is broken for an odd-A nucleus because of the presence of the last unpaired nucleon

AbstractAbstract
[en] The variation of the energy splittings Δ (MeV) and spin orbit splittings (MeV) between the pseudospin partners with α for the nucleus 208Pb is given. It is observed that the spin orbit splitting for α -0.925 is close to zero, and for the realistic value α=-0.812 it is small ≤ 2.5 MeV except for (2g7/2, 2g9/2). The ∼ zero (very small) value and surface peaked properties of the spin orbit potential is an essential requirement for pseudospin symmetry to hold

AbstractAbstract
[en] The essentials of the relativistic mean field (RMF) theory are sketched. The astonishing success of the RMF approach in reproducing the ground state properties of the nuclei near the Β- stability line is pointed out. This approach is now being applied to the nuclei far away from the Β-stability line thus subjecting the theory to a more stringent test. The RMF results are presented for the Exotic Nuclei in the very interesting 2p-1f region where both neutron rich and deficient nuclei can be produced. The calculated ground state properties such as binding energies, densities, root mean square and charge radii, deformations etc are found to be very satisfactory and are in accordance with the experiment (where available). The calculations reveal large ground state deformations and shape co-existence for several nuclei. The charge radii are found to decrease with increase in neutron number in several cases.
