AbstractAbstract
[en] The principal goal of this project is the experimental and phenomenological study of baryon spectroscopy. The PI's group consists of himself and three graduate students. This final report summarizes research activities by the PI's group during the period 03/01/2015 to 08/14/2016. During this period, the PI co-authored 11 published journal papers and one proceedings article and presented three invited talks. The PI's general interest is the investigation of the baryon resonance spectrum up to masses of ~ 2 GeV. More detail is given on two research projects: Neutral Kaon Photoproduction and Partial-Wave Analyses of γp → η p, γn → η n, and γp → K"+ Λ.

AbstractAbstract
[en] Data on π-p and K-p interactions to various neutral final states were measured in 1998 with the Crystal Ball multiphoton spectrometer. The measurements were carried out for beam momenta up to about 760 MeV/c at the C6 beam line of the Alternating Gradient Synchrotron at Brookhaven National Laboratory. This article focuses primarily on the new results from the K-p measurements. Our data for K-p → ηΛ and K-p → π0Σ0 provide new constraints on the properties of light Λ* resonances, while our data for K-p → π0Λ provide new constraints on the properties of light Σ* resonances. Our preliminary results, for example, on the Λ polarization in K-p → π0Λ tend to rule out the two-star Σ(1580)3/2-. This state, if confirmed, cannot be an ordinary three-quark state because of its very low mass

[en] We consider the effect of exotic S = + 1 resonances Θ+ and Θ++ on K+p elastic scattering data (total cross section) and the process KL0p → KS0p. Data near the observed Θ+ (1540) are examined for evidence of additional states. The width limit for a Θ++ state is reconsidered

[en] The ratio of the electric to the magnetic form factor of the neutron, g /equiv GEn/GMn , was measured via recoil polarimetry (R.G. Arnold, C.E. Carlson, F. Gross, Phys. Rev. C 23, 363 (1981)) from the quasielastic 2H (/mathop(e)/limitse' /mathop(n)/limits) 1H reaction at three values of Q2 (viz, 0.45, 1.15, and 1.47 (GeV/c)2) in Hall C of the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility. The data reveal that GEn continues to follow the Galster parameterization up to Q2 = 1.15 (GeV/c)2 and rises above the Galster parameterization at Q2 = 1.47 (GeV/c)2

[en] The deuteron elastic structure function A(Q2) has been extracted in the range 0.7 < or = Q2 < or = 6.0 (GeV/c)2 from cross section measurements of elastic electron-deuteron scattering in coincidence using the Hall A Facility of Jefferson Laboratory. The data are compared to theoretical models, based on the impulse approximation with the inclusion of meson-exchange currents, and to predictions of quark dimensional scaling and perturbative quantum chromodynamics
