AbstractAbstract
[en] The Solid State Nuclear Track Detectors Technique was developed to be used in radon detection, by alpha particles tracks, and its application in uranium prospecting on the ground. The sensitive films to alpha particles used are the cellulose nitrate films LR-115 type 2 strippable, LR-115 type 2 normal and CA8015, produced by Kodak Pathe; the last two films were used in soils radon concentrations measurements. The films were etched in Na0H(10%) at (60.0 +- 0.5)0C for 120 minutes with stirring of the solution. Several simulation experiments were carried out in laboratory with samples of U3O8 buried in sand, to observed the effect of radon migration. Field measurements were made to verify the reprodutibility of the method and to separate local and long-distance signals. A map of the anomalie number 9 in Caetite City region (Projeto Lagoa Real) (BA) was made with the results obtained in 50 detectors placed in a grid pattern spacing (80x100) meters. In this region, there is a mineralization of uranite in albite. The densities of alpha particle tracks obtained were then used as input data to a computer code SYMAP which gives the results as a map of contour lines showing the most promising places for ore localization. The results obtained were compared with scintillation counter measurements made in the same area. The alpha track method is a simple and effective auxiliar technique for the prospection of deeply buried uranium ore bodies and in some cases it is more suitable than scintillometry. (Author)

Desenvolveu-se a tecnica de utilizacao de detectores de tracos para a deteccao de radonio, por meio do registro dos tracos de particulas alfa, e sua aplicacao na prospeccao de uranio em solos. Foram utilizados os filmes de nitrato de celulose, sensiveis as particulas alfa, LR-115 tipo 2 peliculado, LR-115 tipo 2 normal e CA8015 fabricados pela Kodak Pathe, sendo que os dois ultimos foram usados nas medidas em solos. Os filmes foram revelados em NaOH(10%) a (60,0+-0,5)0C por 120 minutos, com agitacao da solucao. Foi verificada a influencia de alguns parametros na eficiencia do detector. Algumas simulacoes foram feitas em laboratorio, com caixotes com areia e fontes de U3O8, para observar a migracao do radonio. Medidas de campo foram realizadas para verificar a reprodutividade do metodo e a separacao entre os sinais locais e distantes. O mapeamento da anomalia numero 9 da regiao de Caetite (BA) - (Projeto Lagoa Real) foi feito a partir dos resultados obtidos em 50 detectores colocados em uma malha de pontos distantes entre si (80x100) metros. A regiao apresenta uma mineralizacao de uraninita disseminada em albita. As densidades de tracos de particulas alfa obtidas foram transformadas em mapa de linhas de contorno, pelo programa de computador SYMAP, mostrando as zonas mais provaveis para a localizacao do minerio. Estes resultados foram comparados com os obtidos por cintilador manual. O metodo se mostrou simples e efetivo para auxiliar a exploracao de minerio de uranio subterraneo e em algumas circunstancias mais indicado do que a cintilometria. (Autor)Original Title

Neste trabalho desenvolveu-se a tecnica de utilizacao de detectores de tracos para a deteccao de radonio por meio do registro dos tracos de particulas alfa, e efetuou-se sua aplicacao na prospeccao de uranio em solos. Foram utilizados os filmes de nitrato de celulose, sensiveis as particulas alfa, LR 115 e CA 8015. Experiencias de simulacao em laboratorio e medidas de campo foram efetuadas para verificar as possibilidades do metodo. [en] The experimental results are described obtained with CaF2:Dy thermoluminescence dosemeters (TLD-200) for the measurement of natural outdoor gamma radiation background and by the gamma spectrometry technique on soil samples to determine natural radioactivity in Centro Experimental Aramar (CTMSP-Brazil) and surroundings, from 1989 to 1997. The Centro Tecnologico da Marinha (CTMSP) is a military research organisation, located in Sao Paulo city (Brazil), whose objectives are to develop nuclear and energy systems for Brazilian Naval Ship propulsion. The estimated average outdoor gamma dose rate in air is 405 ± 71 μGy.y-1. The estimated average values obtained for radionuclides of the natural series are 44 ± 6 Bq.kg-1 for 214Pb (238U series), 58 ± 20 Bq.kg-1 for 228Ac (232Th series), and 131 ± 40 Bq.kg-1 for 40K. These values are compared with background values of other places in the world, and indicate a low outdoor gamma dose rate in air and low natural radioactivity in soil samples in Centro Experimental Aramar and region. The sensitive film to alpha particles used were CA 8015 exposed during 15 days and the results of three anomalies of this region are showed in a form of maps, made with the density of tracks obtained, and were compared with scintillation counter measurements. The technique showed to be simple and an effective auxiliary for the prospection of uranium ore bodies. The initial uranium exploration costs can be reduced by using this technique. (author)

A tecnica do registro de tracos foi aplicada na deteccao de radonio em solos para a prospeccao de uranio na regiao da cidade de Caetite (Bahia-Brasil). Foram usados filmes de nitrato de celulose tipo CA 8015 que permaneceram expostos durante 15 dias e os resultados de tres anomalias desta regiao sao mostrados na forma de mapas, feitos com as densidades de tracos obtidas e foram comparados com medidas radiometricas. A tecnica mostrou-se simples e efetiva para auxiliar a exploracao de minerio de uranio subterraneo, podendo reduzir bastante os custos da exploracao. (autor)Original Title

[en] The photofission cross sections of U-233 and PU-239 have been studied using monochromatic photons produced by thermal neutron capture in several materials placed in a radial beam hole of the IEA-R1, 2 MW pool type research reactor, in the energy interval from 5.43 MeV to 9.72 MeV. The gamma flux incident on the samples were measured using a (3X3) inch. NaI(Tl) crystal. The photofission fragments were detected in MAKROFOL-KG (solid state nuclear track detector) etched 30 min. in a KOH (35%wt) solution at 600C. The efficiency of the detector was obtained using a Californium-252 calibrated source and its value was (0.4323 ± 3%). The tracks were counted by means of an automatic spark counting. Analyzing the photofission data we have observed similarities between the cross sections obtained for the two samples in comparison with other authors. A structure was also observed in the U-233 cross section near the energy of 7.23 MeW. Acoording to the liquid drop model the height of the simple fission barrier were determined: (5.6 ± 0.2) MeV and (5.7 ± 0.2) MeV for U-233 and Pu-239 respectively. The relative fissionability of the samples to U-238 were also determined in each excitation energy and showed to be energy independent: (2.12 +-0.25) for U-233, and (3.32+-0.41) for Pu-239. (author)

As seccoes de choque de fotofissao do U-233 e do Pu-239 foram obtidas no intervalo de energia entre 5,42 MeW e 9,72 MeV usando fotons monocromaticos produzidos pela captura de neutrons termicos em diversos materiais colocados no canal radial do reator IEA-R1. Os fluxos gama incidentes nas amostras foram medidos usando um cristal de NaI(Tl) com dimensoes de (3X3) polegadas. Os fragmentos de fissao foram detectados em Makrofol KG, revelados durante 30 minutos numa solucao de KOH (35%/massa) a 600C. A eficiencia total de deteccao foi obtida usando uma fonte calibrada de Cf-252: Ef = (0,43 ± 3,1%). Os tracos foram contados eletricamente usando uma camara de descarga automatica. Analizando os dados de fotofissao. Observou-se muitas semelhancas entre as seccoes de choque obtidas para as duas amostras em comparacao com outros autores. Uma estrutura foi tambem observada na seccao de choque do U-233 proximo a energia de 7.23 MeV. Usando o modelo da gota liquida a altura da barreira simples de fissao foi determinada H = (5,6 ± 0,2) MeV e H = (5,7 ± 0,2) MeV para os nucleos de U-233 e PU-239 respectivamente. A fissionabilidade relativa das amostras em relacao ao U-238 foi tambem determinadas em cada energia de excitacao e mostrou ser independente da energia: (2,21 ± 0,25) para o U-233 e (3,32 ± 0,41) para o PU-239. [en] The gamma spectrometry technique has been used for masses determinations of uranium-233 and plutonium-239, granted by AERE-HARWELL. A high purity Ge semicondutor detector was used and the total efficiency curve was obtained for the counting system in the energy range 13 KeV to 135 KeV. [en] The track etching method has been employed for neutron radiography purposes, by making use of a cold neutron beam obtained at the IEA-R1 Nuclear Research Reactor. The films used were the Solid State Nuclear Track Detectors CN-85, CR-39, MAKROFOL-E and LR-115, with a natural Boron converter screen. In order to obtain mean track diameter about 3 μ with a minimum overlapping between them, adequate conditions for etching and exposure times about 30 minutes and 3 hours respectively were evaluated. For such conditions exposures of 109 n/cm2 that corresponds to 107 track/cm2 are achieved. Neutron radioagraphs of several materials were performed and the best results in terms of optical contrast, were obtained for the films CN-85 and CR-39. (author)

Apresenta-se a utilizacao do metodo de tracos apicados para radiografias industriais, usando-se um feixe de neutrons frios obtidos do reator de pesquisa IEA-R1. [en] The solid state nuclear track detectors technique has been used for determination of boron in aqueous solutions, using a filtered neutron beam. The particles tracks from the 10B(n,α)Li7 reaction were registered in the CR-39 film, chemically etched in a (30%) KOH solution 700C during 90 minutes. The obtained results showed the usefulness of this technique for boron determination in the ppm range. The inferior detectable limit was 9 ppm. The combined track registration efficiency factor K has been evaluated in the solutions, for the CR-39 detector and its values is K= (4,60 -+ 0,06). 10 -4 cm. (Author)

Foram determinadas concentracoes de boro em solucoes aquosas por meio da reacao 10B (n,α)7Li. As medidas experimentis foram realizadas com um feixe de neutrons filtrado e a analise das concentracoes foi feita pela tecnica de registro de tracos. O filme detetor utilizado foi o CR-39, revelado numa solucao de KOH (30%) a 700C por um periodo de 90 minutos. Os resultados obtidos demonstraram a viabilidade da tecnica na determinacao de concentracoes de boro a partir de 9 ppm.
