[en] 2017 has been an hectic year for Andra with the rise of a strong opposition in the Meuse-Haute-Marne area regarding the future Cigeo waste disposal facility while the project has gone through the successive steps leading to the creation permit procedure. A public information campaign has been carried out, optimizations have been integrated to the design study of the project and the safety options have been analysed by the nuclear safety authority (ASN). The satisfaction survey to radioactive waste producers has confirmed the excellence of Andra's activities. The industrial centre for regrouping, warehousing and storage (Cires, Aube) has put into service its storage space for large-size wastes as well as its sorting and treatment facility. At the Aube plant, the final tests have been made on the package control facility before its start-up while the site safety reexamination operation is still in progress. Geologic surveys in the Aube area have permitted to identify a possible disposal site for low activity/long living and very-low activity wastes. The Manche plant is actually at the closing stage and the monitoring plan implemented at the site (in particular for the follow up of tritium in the aquifer) is satisfactory. The Andra now has a new road-map for the 5 coming years with 6 main strategic focuses, one dealing with the transformation of the agency. [en] A first article of this publication comments how other countries address the issue of radioactive wastes: contrasted situations for low and medium-activity wastes, leader position of Europe in the case of high-activity wastes, options of used fuel management adapted to the conditions met by each country, underground laboratories to experiment various storage concepts. In an interview, the ANDRA international manager evokes the main international actors, their roles, the place of ANDRA within the different international bodies and its relationship with other countries outside these bodies.
