AbstractAbstract
[en] Investigations of a drift chamber with a square 6x6-mm cell filled with a mixture of 80% CF4 and 20% isobutane are discussed. Experiments have been performed under a beam of electron, muons, and pions with a momentum of 64 MeV/c at the TRIUMF accelerator (Canada). The coordinate resolution of the chamber with respect to relativistic particles σ∼120 μm and the total collection time of ionization electrons (dead time) is ∼ 35 nsec. The probability of σ-electron generation in the gas mixture has been determined

AbstractAbstract
[en] This paper presents the characteristics of a bidimensional narrow-gap (2 mm) drift chamber filled with CF4/isobutane (80/20) and operating in a magnetic field of 10 kG. The measurements were performed under a 50-MeV/c secondary π(μ,e) beam at the TRIUMF accelerator (Canada). The drift of the ionization electrons in a magnetic field perpendicular to the chamber plane was studied. The maximum drift time of the ionization electrons in the chamber was ≅ 15 nsec. The chamber's X-coordinate resolution was derived from the drift time and was ≅ 220 μm, irrespective of the magnetic field. The chamber's Y-coordinate resolution was derived by analyzing the signals induced on the cathode plane and was ≅ 150 μm at zero magnetic field. Taking into account the drift effect yields the same Y-coordinate resolution (≅ 150 μm) as is obtainable at zero magnetic field

AbstractAbstract
[en] Results are presented of investigations of the specifications of a narrow-gap two-coordinate drift chamber with the 80% CF4+20% i-C4H10 mixture, operating in a 10 kOe magnetic field. Ionization electron drift is investigated in a magnetic field, perpendicular to the chamber plane. The spatial resolution along the X coordinate is 220 mcm and does not depend on the magnetic field value. The chamber coordinate resolution along the Y coordinate is 150 mcm without the magnetic field and in its presence. 10 refs.; 10 figs
