AbstractAbstract
[en] Electronic structure of Co films grown by molecular-beam epitaxy on Cu (111) surface was studied by Synchrotron Radiation angle-resolved Photoemission Spectroscopy. The peak intensity of the surface state at the Γ-bar point of Cu (111) surface Brillouin zone still can be distinguished even at the coverage of 2ML, which means that the growth mode is not the two-dimensional layer-by-layer mode. With changing the momentum along the direction of Γ-Λ-L of Brillouin zone of bulk copper by varying photon energy, we find that the most prominent peak of cobalt film both at the coverage of 1 ML and 2 ML disperses like that of the surface of Co(0001). With a fixed photon energy for the coverage of cobalt from 1 ML to 2 ML, the changes of cobalt energy band were obtained. It shows that the 3d-band modification do exist because of the interaction of substrate and film atoms at the initial stage of growth. Compared with theoretical calculations, we find that films show ferromagnetic characters even at 1 ML thickness, and they might grow as bilayer island at the initial period of growth

AbstractAbstract
[en] Beamline 3B1B, a VUV beamline in Beijing Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory, was designed for the studies on VUV fluorescence spectroscopy and VUV circular dichroism spectroscopy of biological macromolecules. Due to the very small acceptance and bad vacuum, the beamline did not fulfill the experiments well in past years. A new VUV beamline was designed since 2001, and the photon wavelength range is from 120 nm to 350 nm. The beamline's construction was finished and it was put into use in March 2003. The test result shows its photon flux and resolution and greatly improved. In the paper, design and performance of the beamline is introduced. (authors)

AbstractAbstract
[en] 4B9B is a soft X-ray beamline in Beijing Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory, the photon energy range is 10-1000 eV, photon energy of the low energy branch is from 10-60 eV, mainly for angle resolved photoemission spectrum. Within years operation, some experimenters were limited by the poor count-rate. This article analyzed the shortcomings on the design of the low energy branch, introduced a new scheme of beamline upgrade which need to change two focusing mirrors, meanwhile the mirror parameters was calculated and tracing results of the new beamline was presented. During SR beam time, performance of the beamline was tested after the improvement work, which shows a much more smaller focused image on sample position, and meanwhile the count-rate of experiments with upgraded are increased by more than one order. The beamline is put into use after the upgrade

AbstractAbstract
[en] Electronic structure of MBE-grown Co/Cu (111) films was studied by synchrotron radiation angular-resolved photoemission spectra and auger electron spectra during the process of growth and annealing. The experiment reveals that: the energy shift of s-dz2-hybridized band of copper increases with thickening of the coverage of cobalt, which proves that atomic intermixing occurs at the interface, and there is mainly surface diffusion, not bulk interdiffusion during annealing. The authors attribute the diffusion in the two different processes to one driving force, i.e. the surface free energy of cobalt is remarkably larger than that of copper

AbstractAbstract
[en] 4B8 beamline at Beijing Synchrotron Radiation Facility (BSRF) is based on the previous 3B1B beamline with some modification. This beamline will focus on the advancement of vacuum ultraviolet circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy for studying secondary structure of proteins. Along with beamline moving, some measurements are taken to overcome the exposed problems in 3B1B, such as optical contamination, high stray light level

[en] In order to meet demand for improving the photoelectron spectroscopy station at BSRF, the control system and data acquisition software have been reconstructed. The functions of the new software include the choosing the photo-energy and the data collecting. To fit with a variety of demands from users, the new software has to be very flexible, user-friendly and effective. (authors)

AbstractAbstract
[en] With a sustained and steady operation of the photoemission station at Beijing Synchrotron Radiation Facility, users from different research fields have carried out their investigation on the electronic structure of metal surface-interface, metal doped fullerene as well as colossal magneto-resistance materials utilizing different experimental modes provided by the photoemission station. In this paper authors would present some representative experimental results obtained on the station

AbstractAbstract
[en] The distribution of tungsten ions, on the surface of and in the thermochromic and electrochromic tungsten oxides (WO3) thin films, was studied by slow positron beam and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The correlations between thermochromism and electrochromism were discussed on the basis of chromogenic properties of WO3 thin films. (authors)

AbstractAbstract
[en] A study on purification process of single wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) synthesized by CVD method was performed using X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) and photoelectron spectroscopy. Our experimental results showed that the purification process using hydrochloric acid was effective for the removal of metal particles. The authors also found the chemical bonding between some chlorine ions and the carbon nanotube and suggested that this bonding effect may lead to useful chemical modification of carbon nanotubes. AbstractAbstract
[en] The synchrotron radiation angle-resolved photoemission data of K3C60 single crystal film are analyzed, aiming at the photoionization cross-sections of the LUMO, HOMO and HOMO-1 bands in low photon energy region (14.5-27.5 eV). Many fine structures of the HOMO/HOMO-1 intensity ratios are observed, which support the general validity of a quantum chemistry model. However, the experimental data and the theoretical results have some disagreement in the energy positions and magnitudes of the fine structures, and the disagreement is more outstanding than the case of pure C60. So the photoemission data of K3C60 afford valuable experimental reference to further theoretical developments. The LUMO cross-section data, which cannot be discussed with the quantum chemistry description due to strong solid state effects, are also reported for further studies. (authors)
