Biennial studies of nuclear physics1989
AbstractAbstract
[en] Low energy radioactive ion beams are produced at the Leuven Isotope Separator On Line (LISOL) facility in Louvain-la-Neuve. The beams are used for standard nuclear spectroscopy studies and for Nuclear Orientation On Line measurements. A project to put a He-jet target system coupled with a single stage E.C.R. ion source on line with the mass separator will be presented. In september 1987 an other project was started to accelerate radioactive beams to higher energies. This will be done by coupling the two existing cyclotrons. A beam of 13N will be produced in the summer of this year

[en] The fine structure in the α decay of mass-separated 194,196,198 Po is studied. Only feeding to the 0+ groundstate and the first excited 0+ intruder state in 190,192,194Pb is observed. Out of the α-e-t coincidences between the feeding α and the EO transition, the half life of the 0+ intruder state in 190,192,194Pb is measured. The mixing between the intruder- and groundstate is deduced

The spectroscopy of heavy nuclei 19891990
AbstractAbstract
[en] The α decay of mass separated 194,196,198Po is studied. The half life of the first excited O+ state in 190,192,194Pb was measured using α.e-.t coincidences. The deduced monopole strength increases by almost one order of magnitude going from 194Pb to 190Pb and the deduced α-hindrance factors show a dependence on neutron number. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The α decay of mass-separated 202Rn is studied at the Isolde separator. Time sequential α-singles spectra together with α-X-t and α-e-t coincidence events are collected. Fine structure in the α decay is observed and feeding of a low-lying 02+ state at 816 keV in 198Po is evidenced. This 0+ state can be interpreted as the bandhead of an intruder-state based deformed band, coexisting with the spherical groundstate band. Mixing between normal and intruder states is discussed. A preliminary α-decay study of 200Rn did not yet reveal any fine structure. (orig.)
