[en] This paper contains results of investigation of the damping of nonlinear monochromatic wave and resonant particle acceleration in the inhomogeneous collisionless plasma. Similar results can be derived for the whistler waves. (Auth.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Analytical formulae are given which permit the determination of a single VLF wave characteristics (wave normal, Poynting's vector, etc.) and plasma parameters (Langmuir and cyclotron frequencies) on the basis of amplitude wave measurements. Apart of the assumption of the single wave nature of electromagnetic field the consideration is limited by the ''quasilongitudinal'' wave propagation. The results will provide the information on the wave source location, the existence of magnetospheric ducts and other features of the wave propagation

AbstractAbstract
[en] The geometric optical picture of very low frequency (VLF) wave propagation in the Earth plasmasphere under the assumption of the geomagnetic field dipolarity is studied. It is shown by means of numerical calculations that in the preequatorial region a wave becomes electrostatic one. If the wave frequency is not too small as compared with the equatorial value of the cyclotron frequency at the initial α-shell, all trajectories begin focusing at the approach to the equator and finish in the opposite hemispheres on near α-shells. For these conditions analytical solutions of the geometric optics equations are obtained

AbstractAbstract
[en] Stochastic motion of relativistic plasma particles in the field of an electrostatic wave propagating at an angle to the external magnetic field is studied. The main attention is paid to analytical description of the particle distribution function in the stochastic region. It is shown that in the assumption of phase mixing for this purpose it is sufficient to solve the equation of particle motion at times of the cyclotron period order. The kinetic equation for the particle distribution function is derived and the general character of distribution function evolution in the stochastic case is considered on this basis. The range of applicability of the diffusion equation which is frequently used in the stochastic range on the basis of phenomenological notions is determined. The WKB solution for the distribution functions is found and the important problem of particle heating in the stochastic range is considered

AbstractAbstract
[en] Investigated is the interaction of the quasi-monochromatic ionic-cyclotron wave with energy protons captured in a magnetic trap, in particular, in the Earth's magnetosphere. Determined are the paths of the protons captured by the magnetic trap in the presence of an ionic-cyclotron wave of small amplitude. A function has been found to quantify the distribution of particles in the field of a constant-amplitude wave. The nonlinear decrement of the wave damping is calculated. Evaluated is the level of stabilization of the cyclotron instability in single-mode conditions. The results are employed for interpreting satellite observations of ionic-cyclotron oscillations of the Pc1-Pc2 range produced by the cyclotron instability of energy protons of the circular current in the Earth's magnetosphere. Ionic-cyclotron waves recorded on an Earth's satellite fall into two classes. The first one comprises observations on a geostationary orbit L=6.7 (L is the McIlvain's parameter), and the second class - measurements on satellites with lower orbits. In the former case, the linear increment γsub(l) of the cyclotron instability must exceed the characteristic bounce-frequency Ωsub(b) of protons of the circular current, in the latter case, the condition γsub(b)<Ωsub(b) is fulfilled
