AbstractAbstract
[en] An extension to high excitation energies of the method given earlier for particle spectroscopy of yrast states in light nuclei (A < approx. 30) is described. It is based on the dependance of the shape of the angular distributions on the spin I of the final nucleus for spins I around the critical angular momentum Jsub(crit) in the compound nucleus. The I = 10 yrast states in 24Mg and 22Ne are are localized and a backbending is found in 22Ne. (orig.)

(orig.)Original Title

AbstractAbstract
[en] The stopping power of 107Ag, 109Ag, and 150Sm in nickel and gold was measured as a preliminary test of a new technique for measuring energy loss based on the γ-ray Doppler shift. The analysis of the data was based on the theories of Lindhard, Scharff, and Schiott for nuclear and electronic stopping. The results are compared with the semiempirical predictions of Northcliffe and Schilling and the Lindhard-Scharff-Schiott theory

AbstractAbstract
[en] A drastic limitation of the high-spin selectivity of heavy-ion compound reactions is shown to be introduced by the angular momentum cutoff J/sub max/ in the composite system. However, for final spins near J/sub max/ a strong shape dependence of the angular distributions (being peaked at 90) arises as result of a strong decrease of the alignment of the final nucleus and can be used for high spin spectroscopy

AbstractAbstract
[en] From the energy spectra of light particles produced in light heavy ion induced reactions, level densities of the final nuclei as well as the critical angular momenta for fussion may be obtained. The 14N, sup(16,18) O + 12C reactions were investigated in the energy range 30 MeV < E sub(LAB) < 60 MeV. Detailed angular distributions of the light particles (p, d, t, α) emitted in the process were obtained. Fits of the magnitude and shape of the spectra, by means of statistical model calculations were used to extract final nuclei level densities. The shape of the spectra and the ratio σ(α) σ(p) are shown to be sensitive to the fussion critical angular momentum (J sub(cr)), offering an alternative method for the total fussion cross-section determination. [en] The yrast line of 24Mg has been studied by the high-spin selective reaction 10B(16O, d) at Esub(lab) = 60 MeV. First evidence for the 10+ yrast level in 24Mg is obtained. The critical angular momentum for the compound nucleus formation is found to be Jsub(max) = 15. (Auth.)

[en] The mass excesses of the nuclides /sup 121,123,125/I have been determined to be - 86288.0 +- 21.4 keV, - 87934.3 +- 5.3 keV, and - 88837.9 +- 4.8 keV, respectively, by measuring Q values of the reactions /sup 120hyphen130/Te(3He,d) and /sup 124en-dash130/Te(α,t) with a quadrupole-dipole-dipole-dipole magnetic spectrograph. Furthermore, 26 new energy levels in 121I have been determined

AbstractAbstract
[en] High-spin states in 24Mg have been investigated by the reaction 10B(16O,d)24Mg up to E*approximately24 MeV. High-spin states with I>=9 have been identified at E* =19.20, 20.26, 20.8, 21.6, 23.1, and 23.5 MeV. The 10+ yrast state in 24Mg is probably located at 20.26 MeV. The upper limits with respect to spin and excitation energy of the applicability of heavy-ion compound reactions for particle spectroscopy of high-spin states are discussed. The main limitations result from the increasing continuum and from a decrease of the high-spin selectivity when the final spins approach the critical angular momentum for compound-nucleus formation. It is shown that the difficulty in the analysis of the experiments arising from the decreasing probability of finding isolated yrast states at high excitation energies, i.e. from the increasing level density, can be overcome in such experiments. The decrease in the high-spin selectivity of the total cross section is compensated for spins up to Jsub(max) by the fact that the shape of the angular distribution depends on the final spin for states with I approximately Jsub(max). This is caused by the decreasing alignment of the final nucleus with increasing values of mod[I-Jsub(max)] and can be used for high-spin spectroscopy. (Auth.)
