AbstractAbstract
[en] Performed is the experimental study of operation of the proportional chambers with the signal wires wound at a pitch of 1 mm in 1 GeV proton beam. The beam intensity varies from 104 to 106 s-1 with the diameter of the beam spot changing from 5 to 3 mm, and divergence not over 1 mr. The experiments make it possible to separate the contributions to the inefficiency of a space charge and dead time of the electronic circuits. Conclusion has been made that the efficiency of the proportional chambers is reduced mainly due to the space charge located in the vicinity of the signal wires

AbstractAbstract
[en] The (p,2p) and (p,pn) reactions on 23Na, 28,29,30Si, 31P, 34S, and 39K nuclei were investigated by using the 1.0 GeV proton beam of the SPINP synchrocyclotron as a source of protons. Kinematically complete sets of measurements were carried out with the help of a correlation missing-mass spectrometer with approximately 3.5 MeV FWHM total resolution. Various Skyrme-Hartree-Fock effective nucleon-nucleon potentials and a phenomenological axially-deformed potential of a mean field of a nucleus were used to analyze the experimental data. The deformation parameters and the quadrupole moments of the proton and the neutron component of nuclear density are determined by fitting calculated single particle spectra of neutrons and protons to measured spectra. In contrast to other investigated nuclei with 2s-1d shells, nuclei of silicon isotopes were found to be of oblate shape. The deformation effects are small in the 39K nucleus, which can be considered as virtually spherical. 20 refs., 10 figs., 4 tabs

AbstractAbstract
[en] The differential cross section has been measured at 30, 50, 80, 100, 120 and 140 GeV/c for 0.0022. The results show that the π-p real part goes from negative to positive values below 80 GeV/c. The slope parameter in the t-region measured is significantly higher than what has been found around -t=0.2 (GeV/c)2. (Auth.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Differential cross sections for π-p and pp elastic scattering have been measured at incident momenta ranging from 30 to 345 GeV and in the t range 0.002 (GeV/c)2<=vertical stroketvertical stroke<=0.04 (GeV/c)2. From the analysis of the data, the ratio rho(t=0) of the real to the imaginary parts of the forward scattering amplitude was determined together with the logarithmic slope b of the diffraction cone. The results on the real parts confirm the validity of the forward dispersion relations at high energies. Using the dispersion relations, it was shown that the experimental data on rhosub(π-p)(t=0) require a continuous rise of the total πp cross sections, at least up to the energy of 2000 GeV, thus revealing a close similarity in high-energy behaviour of πp and pp interactions. The results on the slope parameters from this experiment together with the analysis of the available world data demonstrate that the existing experimental data are consistent with the hypothesis of a universal shrinkage of the hadronic diffraction cone at high energies. The value of the asymptotic shrinkage parameter α'sub(p) was found to be independent of the kind of the incident hadron and of the momentum transfer in the t range vertical stroketvertical stroke<=0.2 (GeV/c)2:2α'sub(p)=0.28+-0.03 (GeV/c)-2. AbstractAbstract
[en] This paper presents the results of an experiment in which the spin rotation parameters R and A in π-p elastic scattering have been measured at energies 450, 530, 560 and 600 MeV. The experiment was performed on a pion channel of the PNPI synchrocyclotron. The main parts of the setup were a polarized proton target with horizontal spin orientation and a carbon-plate polarimeter consisting of multigap optical spark chambers with television read-out. A comparison of the obtained results with partial-wave analyses is given. (orig.)
