AbstractAbstract
[en] A mass separator has been connected on line to the 20 MV tandem accelerator at JAERI/Tokai. Using a thermal ion source, decay spectroscopic studies have been carried out for neutron-deficient isotopes in the mass 120-130 region. A study with collinear laser spectroscopy has begun recently. The present paper describes the status of the mass separator facility together with some experimental results. (orig.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] A new type of low-energy radioactive nuclear beam channel 'SLOW' has been constructed at the RIKEN ring cyclotron facility, intended not only for the study of emission mechanisms of various low-energy radioactive as well as stable isotope ions from of the secondary target. In the commissioning experiment of the SLOW beam channel, the reaction products of a heavy-ion induced nuclear reaction have been observed after surface ionization at a hot tungsten target. (orig.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] A surface-ionization ion source for the use of a thick target has been studied by an isotope separator on-line at INS using the 40Ca(p,2pn)38K reaction. The ionization efficiency and release time were measured for CaC2, CaO and CaF2 targets. The measured efficiency turned out to be about 20% both for tantalum and platinum surface ionizers. The release time was also deduced for each target at various values of temperature by measuring time distribution of the extracted radioactivity after bombarding the target for a short time. (orig.)

[en] The Chalk River helium-jet ion source has been upgraded to accommodate a helium transfer-gas flow of 6 std 1/m and operate at 2000deg C. It now provides yields exceeding 1000 atoms/s for short-lived isotopes of some refractory elements. (orig.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] A new type of beam collector for light secondary charged particles ('Large Ω' beam course) was designed and constructed at the RIKEN Ring Cyclotron (RRC). It makes use of the focusing properties of an axially symmetric magnetic field produced by three short superconducting coils. The system sees the target at right angles to the primary beam, and covers a solid angle of about 600 msr. It has been used mainly to transport muons from the decay of pions produced in nucleus-nucleus collisions. The large collision efficiency of surface muons by this collector helped us to obtain valuable data on the production cross section of low-energy pions (below 10 MeV) in reactions of 135 MeV/u 14N beam with various target nuclei. Its future development will also be discussed. (orig.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The absorption behavior of 68Ga(III) and 68Ge(IV) on three different type of ferric oxides has been studied. Alpha-ferric oxide in trigonal structure is found to be a suitable material for the generator. The elution yield of 68Ga from the column of trigonal crystal of α-ferric oxide with absorbed 68Ge(IV) can reach 90% in 1 ml 0.05 mol/l HCl solution, while the breakthrough of 68Ge was less than 1.8 x 10-4. This generator is stable and resistant to chemicals and radiation. The content of Fe in 1 ml eluate is less than 0.1 ppm. The recovery of 68Ga was higher and more constant than that of the known 68Ge-68Ga generator system. (author)
