As part of the conference organized by CARE Iraq International, in collaboration with Tearfund and Aid Gate Organization for Economic Development in Basra, the focus was on the interconnected challenges of climate change, agriculture, and the vital role women play in addressing these challenges and building a sustainable future. The conference aimed to foster dialogue and cooperation among various stakeholders while supporting communities most affected by environmental crises. It also emphasized the importance of empowering women in the agricultural sector as key contributors to finding innovative and sustainable solutions to these pressing issues. #Climate #change is not merely an environmental crisis; it is fundamentally a #human #crisis, Like all crises, it disproportionately impacts women's lives. This week CARE Iraq, Tearfund and Aid Gate Organization (AGO) were in #Basra to discuss the interconnected challenges of climate change, agriculture, and the critical role of women.     Addressing the challenge that #women face requires more than just the contributions of NGOs. we collaborate with relevant #Governments authorities to enact policies that prioritize equitable resource distribution and invest in sustainable #agricultural practices. We engage with academia to advance research and innovation to develop climate-smart solutions tailored to the local context.    Together, through collaboration and shared commitment, we can build a future where no one is left behind. This is only the beginning, and we firmly believe that achieving climate justice is impossible without the full participation and leadership of women. Violence Against Women and Girls has to #stop, Our message is resolute and unequivocal: “We Have #No #Excuse.” Violence against women and girls is an unacceptable violation of basic human rights that must end. This week’s joint advocacy event delivered a powerful and clear message: violence against women is not a private issue—it is a societal problem. It is rooted in systems of inequality, harmful stereotypes, entrenched cultural norms, and systemic failures. Raising awareness alone is not enough. Empowering individuals in isolation is not enough. To truly break the cycle of violence, we must confront and dismantle the structures and systems that allow it to exist and persist. This requires bold and unified action and strong collaboration between governments, civil society, the private sector, and communities. we must join forces in a coalition dedicated to meaningful change. Addressing violence against women demands sustained and collective efforts, grounded in commitment and accountability. This advocacy event is a vital part of our ongoing protection initiatives, implemented in partnership with The Lotus Flower and funded by European Union Humanitarian Aid. The event featured thought-provoking panel discussions led by experts who examined key risk factors driving violence against women in our communities.  We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our distinguished #panelists for their insights and to all participants for their solidarity and commitment. #NoExcuse! Today marks the beginning of the 16 Days of Activism global campaign, with the theme “Towards Beijing +30: UNiTE to End Violence Against Women and Girls.” At CARE Iraq, we are committed to centering the needs of women and girls in all our work. This focus is mainstreamed across all our projects, regardless of their specific objectives. Empowering women requires addressing violence against them—whether individual or systemic—to ensure their meaningful participation in society. As part of this global campaign, CARE Iraq, in partnership with The Lotus Flower, is hosting an advocacy event in Erbil on December 2, 2024. This event is part of the ECHO (European Union Humanitarian Aid)-funded protection project, now in its second year, serving internally displaced persons in informal settlements in Dohok. This event provides a crucial opportunity to bring together government officials, NGOs, and donors to advocate for uniting our efforts in addressing violence against women and children. Together, we can create pathways for change and amplify the voices of those who need it most.
