Chi siamo
Caiarossa is both a organic wine estate rooted in the ancient past as well as a relatively new ambitious project launched by Dutch wine lovers Albada Jelgersma family. Situated in the beautiful hills that oversee the Etruscan Coast of Tuscany, in Riparbella, Caiarossa stretches over 70 hectares of which 31 hectares planted with various international and traditional grapes varieties. Ancient times demised us a heritage we sustain. For that purpose, we manage our vines through biodynamic agriculture, in the aim to produce high-quality wines and share them with our customers. We invite you to follow us, to know more about the life of Caiarossa, season after season…

We will certainly remember the 2024 harvest as one of the longest in recent years! We started harvesting on August 13th, picking the Chardonnay from Nocolino vineyards, and ended on October 2nd with the last Cabernet Franc from Podere serra all'Olio. Our mosaic of 59 plots, interpreted by 11 varieties and the climatic challenges of recent months, demanded meticulous attention. This included vineyard reconnaissance, tastings and daily analyses to ensure the grapes reached perfect ripeness and being harvested at the best time. The first step in the harvesting process is the hand selection of the grapes in the vineyard. The grapes are carefully picked into small boxes to prevent damaging the berries, which can lead to uncontrolled alcoholic fermentation, thus helping to keep the grapes in excellent condition. Once in the cellar, we sort the whole bunches, and after destemming, select the grapes to ensure the highest quality of our musts. At the end of this selection process, the grapes reach the fermentation tanks by gravity, which are specially selected to maintain the vineyard's parcellation. As alcoholic fermentation begins, we closely monitor our musts with daily tastings. These help us determine how to proceed with the following steps. One of the most important ones is controlling the extraction of the components from the skins, such as tannins and colour pigments, through a process called pumping over. This involves pumping the must from the bottom of the tank to the top, allowing us to adjust the extraction for each variety and plot to achieve the best expression of each grape. After completing alcoholic fermentation and maceration, the next step is racking, during which the liquid is separated from the sediment known as marc. The latter, consisting of skins and grape seeds, is gently pressed to extract the residual wine. The spent marc is then added to our compost, an essential element to nourish the soil during winter fertilization. This extraordinary cycle begins in the vineyard, passes through the cellar, and finally returns to the rows. . . . CAMPAIGN FINANCED ACCORDING TO EC REGULATION No. 2021/2115 🇪🇺

Our celebration of Tuscany continues this #newcontentthursday, with a deep dive into Caiarossa. This gorgeous estate on the Etruscan coast in Riparbella, in the Maremma region of Tuscany, is owned by the Albada Jelgersma family of Château Giscours. It's located just 15 minutes from Bolgheri but is not part of the DOC. Farmed organically and biodynamically, it has both Bordeaux and Italian grapes (nine varieties in total, from Cabernet Sauvignon to Syrah, Grenache and Sangiovese) planted on hillside sites, infusing them with Tuscan sunshine and Mediterranean scrub. Understanding its identity among all of those varieties has taken me some time, and catching up with winemaker Jerome Poisson and consultant Valerie Lavigne over the summer was fascinating. I can't wait to share with you the results. Come join us for the tasting of Caiarossa, Caiarossa Bianco and the brilliant, great value Pergolaia on the site this week. #tuscany #tuscanigt #bolgheri #tuscancoast #caiarossa #supertuscans #winebooks #winecritic #newcontentthursdays #insidebordeaux #beyondbordeaux #septemberreleases #giscours #maremma #winebuys #subscribercontent #AriadiCaiarossa #Caiarossa #bolgheri
