Cassina invites you to visit booth M77 that presents "L’Avant-Garde est Femme" and showcases the work of design icon and refined photographer Charlotte Perriand (Paris, 1903-1999) from November 7 to 10 at Paris Photo 2024. Better known for her work as a designer and architect in collaboration with Le Corbusier, Perriand extensively experimented with the photographic medium creating her very own evocative and diversified visual language. Using photography as a work tool for furniture design and as a source of inspiration for her research on shapes, materials and composition, she photographed intensively in the 1930s. The exhibition unfolds around the themes dearest to Charlotte Perriand: alongside the elegant still life photographs of recovered objects, which she called ‘Art Brut’, ample space is dedicated to her love for the mountains and some of her favourite places and source of inspiration, as well as portraits of her friends Le Corbusier and Léger and a self-portrait so extraordinary that it inspired the title of this exhibition. The Flutz small armchairs by Michael Anastassiades are displayed in ‘other than lights’, the exhibition underway at the ANDREAS MURKUDIS multi-brand store in Berlin, from 12 October to 16 November. The display includes the small armchair first designed in 2022, distinguished by two thin parallel aluminium sheets that rise up to shape the armrests and produce a rigid support that frames the comfortable seat. This year, the model has evolved into two new versions, part of the Cassina 2024 Collection, characterized by the absence of armrests and with a high or low backrest, depending on the version. “other than lights” features a dialogue between the products designed over the years by the Cypriot-born designer, along with some of the designs from his personal collection, emphasising the broad range of the author’s portfolio. Cassina was one of the main players at EDIT Napoli 2024, in the CULT program with the tribute-installation “Editare iMaestri. Tributo a Filippo Alison,” which took place in Naples at Teatro di Corte inside Palazzo Reale. The exhibition explored Filippo Alison’s research on the furniture of Charles Rennie Mackintosh and his in-depth study of the of the architect conducted in the 1970s. These studies were able to strongly define Filippo Alison’s character and to identify his iconic pieces, which eventually became part of the Cassina collection. Featured among the models on display, the Willow 1 and Hill House 1 chairs are the centre of attraction. A succession of vertical lines highlights their high backs, emphasized by the theatrical play of light and shadow, a theme carried throughout the entire installation. In the orchestra area of the theatre, a table displays the raw materials that gave shape to Hill House 1, offering an insightful glimpse into the design’s structural complexity. From the 26th to the 29th of September, 2024, Cassina takes part in Pietrasanta Design Week-end, the event signed by Studio Coronel, which this year reaches its third edition. Inside the Church of Sant’Agostino, the Doron Hotel Outdoor small armchair by Charlotte Perriand is the protagonist of “Abitiamo alla marinara”, the installation curated by Giulio Cappellini and Giulio Iacchetti that narrates the design of yesterday and today through a tribute to beach life in Versilia. The Doron Hotel small armchair was designed in 1947 by Charlotte Perriand, an avid lover of the mountains, for the winter sports’ resort in Méribel les Allues and the Hôtel Doron, one of the first chalet-hotels in the same resort. Materic and pleasant to the touch, Cassina has presented the outdoor teak version of this comfortable small armchair with soft and rounded shapes, in collaboration with her daughter Pernette Perriand-Barsac. #Cassina #PietrasantaDesignWeekEnd #DoronHotelOutdoor #CharlottePerriand

The celebrations for the 20th anniversary of the Charlotte Perriand Collection continue: after Seoul and Paris, the spotlight shifted to London. The event coincided with the London Design Festival 2024 (September 14-22), where an exclusive selection of works by Charlotte Perriand was showcased at the Cassina Store London, with the iconic Indochine chaise longue at the center of a scenographic representation that highlighted the designer's attention to materials and the expression of lightness, surrounded by the disassembled components of two of her models floating in space. Charlotte Perriand's daughter, Pernette Perriand, and the designer’s biographer, Jacques Barsac, also led the talk “A Room of One's Own: Inside Charlotte Perriand's Universe” at the Cassina Store London. This discussion took Virginia Woolf's visionary work as a starting point to explore how Charlotte Perriand established herself as one of the most influential voices in twentieth-century design.
