The Center for American Studies is among the oldest and most prestigious European insititutions dedicated to study of the United States. Founded in 1963, it is housed in the impressive Palazzo Antici Mattei in the heart of Rome.
The Center has two main goal: the promotion of a constructive dialogue and mutual understanding between Italy and the U.S. and to enhance the American Studies in Italy.
The Library, which is the core of the Center, is an inspiring place. Especially among students who are often found studying and working. The Library houses a rich collection of more than 50,000 titles, including rare, antiques, and early printed books as well a growing number of media and electronic resources.
The Center is a bridge between the Italian and American cultures through conferences, discussions, and talks. Thanks to the presence and the efforts of institutional, cultural, academical representatives, and prized writers and journalists of both countries, we host more than 10,000 spectators per year. International relations, politics, cyber innovations, literature, and history are the key topics debated.
Thanks to the several agreements with the various Italian and American Universities, the Center offers a high-level internship program and free access to the venue for students.
Many prestigious figures have attended the Center, for example: John Sullivan, Laura Bush, Nancy Pelosi and David Petraeus. Also, famous writers and entertainers including but not limited to: Leslie Marmon Silko, Abraham Yehoshua, Jhumpa Lahiri, Francis Ford Coppola, and Meryl Streep.
