The Department of Agricultural and Food Sciences (DISTAL) was born in 2018 as an integrated organization incorporating all the teaching and research activities of the agricultural and food area of the University of Bologna.
It is organized to cover the main disciplines concerning agriculture, food, environment and the bioeconomy, in particular:; Agronomy and Field, Vegetable, Ornamental Crops; Agricultural Chemistry, Pedology and Agricultural genetics; Agricultural Engineering; Agro-environmental and Food microbiology; Animal Sciences; Chemistry, Biochemistry and Botany; Food Science and Technology; Fruit Tree and Woody Plant Sciences; Plant Pathology and Entomology; Agricultural and Food Economics.
To answer the current societal challenges in the framework of SDGs and with the recent attention to resilience, the department promotes innovation in particular around research areas such as Precision Agriculture and big data, Water management, Soil health, Plant health, Circular Bioeconomy, Apidology and Apiculture, Aquaculture and fisheries, Genetic resources and agricultural and Food processing and bio-technologies in general.
DISTAL has two main campuses: the headquarter located in Bologna (BO), focused on agriculture teaching, research and knowledge transfer activities and the campus of Cesena (FC), where food science educational programs and research activities are developed. However, DISTAL performs its main missions in other educational and research hubs located in Ozzano (BO), Cadriano (BO), Imola (BO) and Tebano (RA).
