➖ SUSTAINABLE CONSTRUCTION INNOVATION Water management and resilience are among the highest global priorities. Climate change causes dramatic changes in rainfall leaving most buildings unprepared. Demand for water management and resilience solutions has drastically increased, creating a new battle between outdated & unsustainable and innovative & sustainable solutions. Outdated solutions are concrete basins and open ponds. Innovative solutions are underground tanks made from recycled plastic modular elements. Water management and resilience are areas where sustainability & innovation must win. In 2020 we launched Aquabox - a recycled plastic solution for underground water basins. Aquabox is placed underground and each box can retain 430 l of water while withstanding weight of over 45 t/m2. ➖ SUSTAINABLE CONSTRUCTION INNOVATION Concrete is responsible for 8% of global CO2 emissions but it can not be replaced quickly. Global demand for housing is growing and concrete is still the most popular solution. Researchers and companies have been working for decades to improve the concrete formula and reduce its carbon footprint. However, they are still far from providing a solution that can be implemented easily, affordably, everywhere in the world. In 2010, we launched New Nautilus - a recycled plastic formwork that reduces concrete use by 20 to 30 %. New Nautilus is inserted in concrete slabs, which are the biggest users of concrete. This creates voided slabs that are lighter and require less concrete. New Nautilus voided concrete slabs lower the carbon footprint and are lighter and safer. The best thing about New Nautilus is that it can be easily used anywhere in the world. It is a perfect solution that can reduce the global concrete carbon footprint today. ➖ SUSTAINABLE CONSTRUCTION INNOVATION Geoplast S.p.A. is a global provider of sustainable construction solutions that exclusively avoids virgin materials and is focused on using only recycled plastic to reduce carbon footprint, fuel use, and energy use in construction and real estate. Despite the presence of innovative companies like ours, the construction industry remains entrenched in outdated, polluting, and non-sustainable methods. The need for change is urgent, as sustainable construction solutions have existed for decades but are constantly rejected in favor of old, entrenched methods. Another big block for sustainable construction are solutions that are too complex and not available globally. Construction is a global phenomenon. Solutions need to be simple, easy to use, safe, affordable, and available everywhere. One example is recycled plastic formwork we invented in 2005, almost two decades ago. Although they are an obvious next step, they are still far from being an industry standard. Innovation and change are not only about a great idea.
