We thoroughly enjoyed spending time with you yesterday at #UNCCD COP16Riyadh too, Dr. Alvaro Lario! 👏
I enjoyed spending some time today at the #UNCCD COP16Riyadh with members of the International Land Coalition - #landrights activists leading the charge to protect the world's land and secure the rights of those who depend on it. These #farmers, #pastoralists, #Indigenous Peoples, women, and youth represent the world’s largest and most diverse coalition on land rights, reaching more than 70 million in 84 countries. By ensuring the voices, solutions and leadership of those who actually work the land are at the centre of global policy and action, these groups are actively pushing #inclusive and #sustainable #development from an aspiration to a reality. I’m proud that #IFAD is a host of ILC – as well as a member, alongside other relevant organizations like the The World Bank Group, CGIAR and Landesa. Together, we work to transform land governance to address the pressing challenges of our time—from #landdegradation to #foodinsecurity and #climatechange.

👉 Why are YOU going to UNCCD COP16, really? Between today and December 10th, we at the International Land Coalition have a mission. 🌍💚 We're fighting for the rights of the nearly 500 million pastoralists and mobile communities who hold the key to restoring our planet's degraded lands.🌱✨ 📅 Come find us at one of the events we're co-hosting: https://bit.ly/3OweAxY 📍 You can also find us at the Rangelands and Pastoralists Pavilion (Blue Zone, D17), where we're sharing a booth with @Resource Conflict Institute (RECONCILE) 👉 HOW TO HELP👉 : Pastoralists protect rangelands that cover 40% of the Earth, yet their essential role is often misunderstood. It's time to change the narrative, and you can play a part in this transformation! 🙌 Pastoral mobility is not a threat. It is a powerful, restorative practice that enhances soil health and aids in the recovery of degraded landscapes. At COP16, we are advocating for: ✖️ An end to #fortressconservation ✅ Any effort towards achieving #degradation neutrality should embrace local communities’ rights to land, territory and mobility and recognise their vital roles as stewards. 🌍💚 Join the conversation by sharing, commenting, or liking this post to help amplify our message! -- #UNCCD #COP16 #socialjustice #civilsociety #environmentaljustice #CSO #grassroots #protectourplanet #conservation #humanrights #peoplepower #advocacy #activism

🌱 We’re heading to #UNCCDCOP16 -- will we see you there? 👇 📆 Check out our schedule of events: https://bit.ly/3OweAxY Nearly 500 million pastoralists safeguard and depend on #rangelands that cover 40% of Earth’s surface. Yet there is a common and misguided narrative that pastoralists overgraze, degrade and turn land into deserts. This is not only false, but reckless. Pastoral mobility is restorative, innovative and adaptive, attuned to the rhythms of nature while also being steeped in centuries of tradition. Traditions can exist without being stuck in time ✅ What’s the truth? Pastoralist practices improve soil microclimates and biodiversity and enhance its critical capacity to store soil organic carbon, often lost due to the conversion of rangelands to other uses such as crop farming and industry, including green energy. Their lands store 30% of global soil carbon. 🌍 At this #UNCCDCOP16, we’re advocating to make sure: Any effort towards achieving degradation neutrality should embrace local communities’ rights to land, territory and mobility and recognise their vital roles as stewards. Only by strengthening land tenure security can we move closer to achieving land degradation neutrality. 🔗 Learn more about our goals: https://bit.ly/3OweAxY 🗓 Where can you meet us? From December 1st–10th, we’ll be hosting events and engaging in key conversations. Here are 5 places to meet and talk about land rights & restoration! ⬇️ 💬 Are you attending COP16? Let us know in the comments! --- #LandRights #Restoration #Biodiversity #Pastoralism #ClimateAction #SustainableLandManagement #SoilCarbon #UNCCD #Civilsociety #grassroots #pastoralism
