What happens when governments require public officials to report #irregular migrants? In #Sweden, a controversial proposal for a reporting duty has sparked debates over balancing rights and migration control. While exemptions for healthcare and education professionals have softened the policy, broader measures raise critical questions about human rights, public trust, and enforcement. In this new #PRIMEprojectEU blog post, Anton Ahlén and Lutz Gschwind explore : 👉 Sweden’s shift in migration policies 👉 Public attitudes toward irregular migration control 👉 The ongoing tension between fundamental rights and enforcement Read the post to explore what these developments might mean for #migration policy across Europe. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/dzRcCdjQ

On #InternationalMigrantsDay, we call attention to those migrants without legal status who live or work in host countries. ❗ These people are highly vulnerable to labour exploitation and fundamental #rights abuses. 👉 However, assessing the rights of those living 'outside the law' is not straightforward. 🗞️ In this blogpost, Clare Fox-Ruhs, Part-time Assistant Professor at the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies, argues that to fully understand the rights of irregular migrants, we must look beyond explicit legal rights and include instances of ‘implied rights’ of irregular migrants. 🔎 Jobs like domestic work or agricultural harvesting rely on Temporary Labour Migration Programs (TLMPs), but what are these programs really about? ➡️ TLMPs provide #migrant workers with temporary residence and work permits, but they often come with significant limitations: workers are granted restricted rights and have no clear pathway to permanent residence. Learn more about the ethical questions surrounding these programs 🔎 https://loom.ly/FtZ6I3U ✍ Authored by Rainer Bauböck, Julia Mourão Permoser, Martin Ruhs, and Lukas Schmid (Migration Policy Centre)

"(...) addressing the politicisation of migrant integration in small and medium-sized towns and rural areas is tantamount to investing in the future of social cohesion in the EU because the EU is first and foremost a space of villages, cities and regions where migrants and citizens alike live, work and make community together." Do you know what SMsTRA stands for? 🔎 It refers to small and medium-sized towns and rural areas, which, since the 2015 European 'refugee crisis', have become key in hosting #refugees and #migrants. ➡️ Yet, many still lack well-developed integration policies. This Short highlights how political factors shape integration and suggests actions for creating more inclusive policies 📌 https://loom.ly/61BMf4g #MigrationCoLab short by Tiziana Caponio and Andrea Pettrachin

#Migration policies affect thousands of people, but do they truly reflect why people migrate? Assumptions about why people migrate—whether for economic opportunities, legal status, or other reasons—shape policies that often have far-reaching consequences. In this blog, Carlotta Minnella explores how #policymakers’ frames influence #MigrationGovernance and why it matters 🌐 https://lnkd.in/dA_YJjKV
