🌟 A special congratulations to Federica Acerbi on her participation as a keynote speaker in the 2nd Swedish Circular Economy Colloquim, hosted by the Chalmers University of Technology. An insightful discussion that contributed to facilitating knowledge sharing and advancing academic research on #circular #economy. #CircularEconomy #CicularManufacturing #Sustainability #Research #Innovation
Today, we hosted the 2nd Swedish Circular Economy Colloquium online. It was great to hear from our two keynote speakers Federica Acerbi from Politecnico di Milano and Carl Dalhammar from IIIEE at Lund University. Federica got us thinking about data-driven circular manufacturing with her maturity model and multi-stakeholder view of information requirements. Then Carl's talk focused on the emerging policy landscape for a circular industrial transition in Europe. We also held thematic discussions sandwiched between these two talks. Here are some of my takeaways from the 14 whiteboards created during the discussions, looking for recurring research challenges, collaboration ideas and potential barriers to collaboration. 🧩 A major challenge related to the multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary nature of circular economy: how to enable knowledge transfer and mutual learning to accelerate the uptake of circular practices? How do we define and align the terminology to understand each other more quickly? #collaboration 💰 A connected topic was the need for funding opportunities to support collaborations on complex challenges crossing disciplinary boundaries. #funding 👩🎓 The need for awareness, training, knowledge and ways to diffuse it was mentioned a lot, but also specialised competencies for different industries and stakeholder groups. Because generic CE knowledge can only take you so far! #education #greenskills 📏 Another big topic was measuring sustainability performance and defining success based on core sustainability values. The discussions revolved a lot around data-driven solutions and the use of AI/ML. #digitaltransformation #artificialintelligence #machinelearning 💡 Many more ideas were discussed and exchanged which I am sure I am missing since I was mostly flying around the different groups. This event aimed to explore the landscape of circular economy research in this budding national network, which was initiated by our colleagues from CE@KTH Royal Institute of Technology during the first colloquium this summer, Amir Rashid, Sayyed Shoaib-ul-Hasan and Johan Arekrans. I am very grateful to all who helped prepare for the online colloquium. This includes my fantastic team Arpita Chari, Clarissa González, Fang Qi for the support before and during the event, Katherine Whalen for coordinating the event series, as well as our discussion leaders Maria Ljunggren, Mohamed Abdelmageed, Maud Lanau, Ignat Kulkov, Marie Mattsson, Koteshwar Chirumalla, Marianna Lena Kambanou, Jelena Kurilova-Palisaitiene, Kristina Nyström, Melina Ettehad, Johannes Matschewsky, and Sophie Charpentier. I look forward to our next event in Göteborg on May 20th, 2025. It will be hosted by Katherine Whalen and Ann-Charlotte Mellquist from RISE Research Institutes of Sweden with the continued support from Chalmers University of Technology, KTH Royal Institute of Technology and our colleagues all over Sweden. To all our participants, THANKS again for today!
