🇧🇪 One week ago I had the pleasure of attending Stereopsia in #Brussels, representing both Softcare Studios and XRSI Europe. 🇪🇺 It was for me the final event of 2024 and the perfect opportunity to meet both the International #XR network and some of the European decision-making stakeholders on the topic of #virtualworlds. 💡It was really easy to meet and connect with several familiar and new colleagues in the field, filling almost every hour with plans to discuss, initiatives to engage with and topics to debate. As discussed with my colleagues from #XRSIEurope, Luis Bravo Martins Alina Kadlubsky, we had the prove how meeting in person is still crucial to seed solid collaborations before moving to virtual agile connections. 🥽 During the scientific track, I had the opportunity to share our work at Softcare Studios in the field of #virtualsedation in #pediatrics and adult patients during invasive medical procedures. It was truly inspiring listening to the work of several colleagues like Jose Ferrer Costa and Gayoung Son, witnessing our common and distributed efforts in pushing forward impactful research in #XR, often facing similar challenges and hard-working to provide solutions benefiting future researchers. 👏 #Stereopsia2024 has been extremely dense of projects, and the number of connections to follow up these days speaks in favour of a very productive event. 🇳🇱 We're back from several events in Europe, time for a recap: let's start with Immersive Tech Week in #Rotterdam VRDays Foundation! 🔍 On the second day of the conference, Valentino Megale, PhD together with our clinical advisor, Dr Gianuario Sanna, and Kyle Rand, joined the panel entitled "XR and #AI for Well-being: Developing a Politics of Care" introduced and moderated by Dr Skip Rizzo. 🔹The discussion highlighted the complexity of hospital environments, where patients' needs intersect with those of healthcare professionals and clinical workflows. Any digital solution must account for this intricate ecosystem. Our work at Softcare Studios with #virtualsedation exemplifies this approach, addressing both patient comfort and the operational demands of clinical settings. By leveraging immersive virtual reality experiences, we have demonstrated how tailored solutions can alleviate stress and pain for patients undergoing medical procedures while streamlining workflows for healthcare professionals. 🔹As shown in our case studies, VR solutions not only increase patient satisfaction but also help reduce procedural time and improve overall resource management, reflecting the importance of scalability and adaptability in complex hospital settings. I'm so glad people are talking about this. I started developing VR software to use with some of my physiotherapy patients in 2019, and what surprised me was how elderly and severely compromised neurological patients were often the ones who most appreciated this type of therapy and responded the most, even in objective terms. For those patients I have really seen an increase in activity & active range of motion, a lower perceived pain score, along with a mood shift and decreased kinesiophobia.

🇮🇹 Abbiamo avuto il piacere di partecipare al 43° Congresso Nazionale di #ANIARTI (Associazione Nazionale Infermieri di Area Critica), un'edizione fortemente improntata sull'impatto dell'#innovazionedigitale in ambito clinico, incluso l'utilizzo di tecnologie quali le #XR e l'#IA. Ringraziamo il nostro clinical advisor, il Dr. Gianuario Sanna, per aver descritto come la #realtàvirtuale può diventare uno strumento per aiutare il personale infermieristico a gestire più facilmente i pazienti, riducendo la necessità di somministrare sedativi durante procedure mediche quali posizionamento di accessi vascolari e interventi chirurgici (#sedazionevirtuale). L'evento è stata una preziosa occasione per confrontarci con i professionisti del settore, esplorandone i need e le criticità, utili a informare i nostri processi di ricerca e sviluppo ed i futuri progetti. I visori si inseriscono proprio in questo contesto, come utilissimo strumento soprattutto perché è una tecnologia che permette di essere tarata sulle esigenze delle diverse età, dai bambini piccoli fino agli adolescenti.
