In case you missed last week in #Munich! Hats off to ETIP-Geothermal for hosting the first ever Geothermal Innovation Days, an inspiring event focused on shaping the future of #geothermal #energy in #Europe, particularly regarding the avantgarde aspects of our industry and its potential to positively disrupt and decarbonize supply chains. We are especially proud of the good work done by the current ETIP-G chairman -- Steam's Global Sales and Partnerships Director and Lead Technical Advisor, Luca Xodo -- who helped focus the event on the tactics, technology and frameworks for rolling out geothermal across Europe. A highlight of topics includes: - Well technologies: drilling and well construction, methods & materials - Reservoir engineering and HX methods - AI for resource assessment and management, and energy usage - Higher capacity / more efficient energy conversion - Portfolio approach for de-risking - Large-scale research infrastructures Attended and supported by a geothermal all-star lineup including industry leaders, academics, and policymakers, the event shared a vision for a sustainable energy future that invigorated attendees and sponsors alike. And a special thank you to Eavor Technologies Inc., who opened the doors of their next-generation Geretsried facility for a field trip on Day 2. Luca summed up his remarks saying, "This year's Innovation Days showcased how we envision 4+1 targets for strategically advancing geothermal's role in European supply chains by 2040. We want 10% of electricity production, 30% of heating and cooling demand, 25% of minerals for lithium-ion batteries, and 10% of heating and cooling storage -- and we want 40% of the geothermal supply-chain made in Europe. We believe these objectives are achievable and we aim to do exactly that." 🎓 Steam is back training tomorrow's #geothermal experts! We're proud to celebrate our Geochemical Lead, Prof. Luigi Marini, for his teaching work this week in #Switzerland during Geochemistry and Hydrochemistry module of the CAS DEEGEOSYS program at the @University of Neuchâtel! UoN's Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) in Deep Geothermal Systems has been shaping geothermal industry leaders since 2011, empowering young scientist to take leading roles in the exploration and development of deep geothermal resources across the world. Prof. Marini's 40 years of geological and geochemical excellence has crisscrossed academia, applied research, and industry consulting. With nearly 100 publications and nearly as many expert speaking appearances, Prof. Marini is of the most widely published and respected geochemists alive today. His expertise was and continues to be sought by geothermal developers and politicians alike, though his dedication to the classroom shows his passion for helping young people grow and follow their passions. Updates from Steam! We're proud to announce that one of our latest assignments in #Kenya has been both nominated for the #GRC2024 Ben Holt Geothermal Power Plant Award and featured on Episode 3 of #GeoTV. The assignment--Owner's Engineering for the Karsan & Son's Ndovu #Cement combined #geothermal heat and power project--was the brainchild of Dr. George Muia (PhD), who is listed on the nomination for his outstanding work in using geothermal energy to decarbonize the cement industry, one of the world's most carbon-intensive sectors and extremely difficult to abate. A great day #geothermal! Today, in #Kenya, we proudly joined the Groundbreaking Ceremony of the Orpower Twenty-Two Power Plant--the third of three planned power plants in Geothermal Development Company's #Menengai #Geothermal park. Steam is delighted to announce that we will serve as the project’s Owner’s Engineer. EPC activities for Orpower Twenty-two will be managed by Kaishan Group, with whom we enjoyed great success during the realization of Sosian Energy 35 MWnet geothermal power plant in Menengai, the first of the three planned power plants in GDC’s 105MW Menengai Geothermal park. Other important news from the event includes Kaishan’s MOU with KenGen Kenya for the development of another 140MW of geothermal capacity in Kenya, an initiative which will also involve #hydrogen and #ammonia production. Today is #WorldGeothermalEnergyDay 2024! And here’s something that will blow you away: #geothermal is considered the most effective commercial technology at providing #energysecurity.  • 3-4x more secure than #wind and  • 4-5x more secure than #solar panels And that’s not just for today— that’s until 2050! So what’s #energy security? A recent @europeancommission report (link below), defines it as “the uninterrupted availability of energy sources at an affordable price”.” Uninterrupted” is the key word—it’s not the same “#intermittent.”  • Intermittent means that the renewable can’t always produce electricity (e.g. wind, solar, and ocean power)  • Uninterrupted means that the renewable has a secure supply chain that is not at risk of being disrupted When considered together with other factors like  • #LandUse - geothermal requires over 1000x less land than wind farms and 60x less land than solar farms  • Lifecycle #Emissions - geothermal’s #carbonfootprint is 3-4x less than solar, and  • Plant Uptime - geothermal is #1 in the world, even better than #nuclear it’s easy to see why geothermal energy is becoming a strategic investment for governments and communities around the world. We're wrapping up the last day at the European Geothermal Transition Summit! On Day 1, our Sales Director Luca Xodo presented on ETIP-Geothermal's Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda and Vision for a 2050 Climate Neutral EU and today our CEO Matteo Quaia provided a new framework for understanding #Italy's geothermal market in the light of recent legislation initiatives like #PNIEC and #FER2. Why the Geothermal "Transition" Summit? This event, organized by our esteemed hosts at Offshore Network Ltd., is on a mission to put #oilandgas technologies to work building renewable #geothermal #energy. Why that mission? Mission Dynamic 1: Because applying Oil & Gas skillsets to geothermal solutions is like applying rugby skillsets to American football. The similarities are enormous. Mission Dynamic 2: Because even though Oil & Gas is already championing renewable resources enablers like #hydrogen, geothermal solutions rely on widely used resources like #heat and #electricity and are already market ready, as they do not require dramatic changes to infrastructure or consumer behavior. Conclusion? When combined, these two dynamics resolve a major point of friction for O&G companies as they work to diversify their portfolios to support the #energytransition, creating cost-competitive new service lines while continuing to invest in their workforce.
