French Lane has received a makeover with the arrival of two new benches outside the entrance to the Central Market. These benches were commissioned by the Government of Jersey to be created by local collective Racc’moder using storm-felled timber. The benches represent a commitment to smart procurement and support for Jersey’s local circular economy. Read the story behind our French Lane benches: https://lnkd.in/e7Nsyaiw

THE FISH WISH MARKET RESIDENCY: ESTHER ROSE PARKES & KAREN LE ROY HARRIS SELECTED TO BEGIN COMMUNITY PROJECT THAT WILL CULMINATE IN A NEW PUBLIC ARTWORK FOR THE CENTRAL MARKET ArtHouse Jersey, in partnership with Creative Island Partnership and Jersey Markets are delighted to announce artists Esther Rose Parkes and Karen Le Roy Harris have been selected for the Jersey Markets Residency call-out, an initiative which will culminate in the creation of a new unique public artwork for the Central Market. The artists will work from a unit in the Beresford Street Fish Market for 12 weeks, with a temporary studio opening over a number of days across the week for the public to view the artistic process. Their vision is to create a transformative installation for the Central Market that weaves together the past, present and future of the market through installation, sculpture, sound and community participation. At the heart of the process is the gathering of stories from the market’s diverse community. These stories will shape a collaborative choir performance and soundscape, as well as inform the visual elements of the installation. The final physical installation will be a layered, participatory artwork. Ropes knotted with community wishes will form a striking sculptural centerpiece around the fountain. You can learn more at THE LINK IN COMMENTS. From next Friday 24 January people can pop in and say hello, with the artists being there on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays thereafter. Workshops and activities will be announced in the coming weeks. Karen & Esther would like to thank the charity CRY Jersey (Care & Relief for the Young) for kindly donating furniture for the studio space #ArtHouseJersey #CreativeIslandPartnership #JerseyMarkets #FishWishResidency #Artists #CommunityArt

The Government of Jersey has released it's new plan for the Island's retail sector, and we are delighted that Arts and Culture are included in the heart of the roadmap. In this plan, GoJ advocates for spaces where local artists and craftsmen can showcase their talents, where traditional practices are preserved and celebrated, and where cultural exchange flourishes. The CIP is excited to work with the retail team to explore how retail can contribute to Island events and cultural engagement. Read more about the Future Fit Retail Roadmap: https://lnkd.in/eBe3TjnE

Jersey was represented by the wonderful Dr. Adam Perchard at the 14th annual Transpoesie international poetry festival in Brussels. As part of the festival, which celebrated surrealist poetry and linguistic diversity, Adam performed 3 long-form poems, and forged connections with many other European poets. They describe their experience below: "Representing Jersey in Brussels at the international poetry festival, Transpoesie, was an extraordinary, transformative experience. I met and exchanged ideas with some incredible poets from across Europe – poets writing in more than a dozen languages about war, trauma, healing, feminisms, injustices, culture, history, and the gaps between meaning and unmeaning. It was a joyful, fiercely stimulating time. The theme of surrealism provoked some gloriously experimental work, and many of us chose to lean into the trope of resistance at the heart of the surrealist movement. I performed three long-form poems over the course of 48 hours – the first was giving voice to the 65 victims of Jersey’s historic witch trials, the second was ‘Meanwhile the Gays’ a polyphonic epic about homophobia and the shapes society twists gay people into, and the final poem was about the double-edged sword of queer visibility and the dangers it poses to those of us who walk the world in beautiful, defiant plumage..." We at Creative Island Partnership, alongside ArtHouse Jersey and Guernsey Arts, are excited to announce the second year of the Channel Islands Touring Fund! This initiative, funded by the Government of Jersey and Guernsey Arts, is designed to support the professional development of music artists from the Channel Islands while fostering a rich cultural exchange between Jersey and Guernsey. This is a great opportunity for musicians from both islands to apply for travel support, enabling them to perform across the Channel Islands, Normandy, and Brittany. Eligible artists may include sound artists, classical musicians, bands, and singer-songwriters. Artists can grow their local audiences, access the French live music scene, and build connections with other professionals within the region. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until the fund is fully allocated, with decisions made at the end of each month.
