Lowering the “green premium”—the added cost of choosing cleaner products over carbon-emitting ones—is essential to making a sustainable transition feasible and attractive across industries. Over the past decade, we've seen impressive progress in reducing costs for various clean alternatives, making switching to greener products easier and, in some cases, even cheaper. Yet, in heavy industries like #manufacturing, #cement, and #steel, the green premium remains prohibitively high. To reach commercial viability for clean technologies in these sectors, we need a multi-pronged strategy that aligns policy, innovation, and consumer demand. End consumers should be informed about how adopting low-carbon alternatives impacts their budgets, as their willingness to support cleaner products can significantly drive demand. Even with policy support and public-private investments, demand remains crucial in scaling these technologies. As I've often emphasized, collaboration is at the heart of the #energytransition, and reducing the green premium is a clear example. By aligning supportive policies, channeling investments into breakthrough technologies, and fostering demand for low-carbon alternatives, we can bring these solutions to scale and make clean products more accessible and affordable.
