Having "Ever Researching for a Brighter World" as our motto, Nichia has grown in the field of development, manufacturing and sales of fine chemicals, particularly inorganic luminescent materials (phosphors). In the process of the challenging pursuit of brighter luminescent and light-emitting materials, we succeeded in developing and commercializing the super high brightness Blue LED in 1993, which greatly impressed the world. Since the first introduction of the Blue LED in 1993, we succeeded in developing the world’s first white LED by combining yellow phosphor and blue LED, followed by the successful development of practical level of blue-violet semiconductor laser for the first time in the world. The invention of these Nitride-based LED and laser diodes causes the technological innovation of light source in the field of display, general lighting, automotive, industrial equipment, and medical care & measurement. We hope that Nichia will continue to be a company that makes contributions to the world by evolving its original and unique technologies in the field of manufacturing.

On November 12-15th, the world's leading trade fair and conference for electronics called “electronica” will be held in Munich, Germany. At the event, Infineon Technologies AG of Germany will hold presentations at the Automotive Forum. A new version of the NVSW519A-V1 portfolio has been added, featuring a TLCI (Television Lighting Consistency Index) of 90 and a color rendering index of Ra ≥ 90 and R9 ≥ 50 with enhanced efficiency. TLCI is an indicator that quantifies the color reproduction of illuminated objects when they are projected on a display through a camera. Video and images taken under high TLCI lighting have higher color reproducibility than those taken under ordinary LED lighting, allowing users to enjoy natural, vivid, and beautiful images on TVs, PCs, and smartphone screens. This product, which also features high power, long lifespan, and high reliability, is ideal for stadium lighting and studio lighting where high TLCI is required. By becoming closer to reality, viewers can have a more enjoyable experience. There was a release about new LED-based water disinfection devices, that has successfully been replacing mercury lamp systems. By using the features of this device as an example, Nichia would like to explain in this blog the reason for why it was possible for the manufacturer to replace mercury lamps with LEDs, and the advantages of utilizing LEDs. More than 140 years ago, on October 21, 1879, Thomas Edison invented the world's first practical incandescent light bulb. Until then, for many, many years, people relied on the light produced by nature to live. With Edison’s invention, most of society could then have light when necessary. Lighting is often taken for granted, but it should be celebrated on this great day of invention as “Lighting Day”, and honor the positive effect it has brought the world. The "Lighting Day" committee, established by three lighting-related organizations (Japan Lighting Manufacturers Association, The Japan Electric Association, and The Illuminating Engineering Institute of Japan), designates October 21 as "Lighting Day" to praise Edison’s incredible achievement. The NCSRE17A-V1, a new 1W-class Deep Red, has been added to Nichia’s Direct Mountable Chip portfolio. Compared to existing phosphor converted (“PC”) red models, the newest NCSRE17A-V1 emits a deeper PC red, allowing an expansion of the color gamut. Additionally, the compact package (1.7x1.7mm) with high lumen density fosters innovative lighting designs, including the miniaturization of optics, enhanced flexibility in color tuning, and the potential to integrate single-color LEDs into general lighting. Target applications are architecture lighting, landscape lighting, color floodlights and many more.
