The Abstract submission deadline for The 2nd Actuarial, Finance, Risk and Insurance Congress (AFRIC 2) to be held in the Kenya's Savannah Grasslands, the Maasai Mara National Reserve, from the 8th – 13th of June 2025, is fast approaching. Both portals can be accessed via the link: https://lnkd.in/dZ_3w6NC   The abstract submission deadline is Friday, the 13th of December 2024 at 23:59hrs (AEST) which is fast approaching. We have an exceptional line up of globally renowned plenary speakers including Professor Andrew Cairns from Herriot Watt University, a leading academic on financial and longevity risk management and for pension plans and life insurers; Professor Hansjoerg Albrecher from the University of Lausanne who is a global expert in risk theory; Professor Gordon Phillips from Tuck Business School at Dartmouth, an accomplished and leading researcher on emerging markets; and Ms Adelaide Odhiambo, an esteemed practitioner who with significant experience across all East African Markets. The early bird for ticket sales ends on the 18th of January 2025 at 23:59 hrs (AEST).   A number of initiatives have been lined-up for AFRIC 2 including: 1.   A pre-conference workshop on advances in Artificial Intelligence, Climate Change and GIS which will be run and being sponsored by the global IT giant, Microsoft with Dr. Samuel (Maina) Chege, PhD leading the day program. 2.   A workshop on decentralised finance and insurance which will be led by Professor Jan Dhaene, an esteemed full professor in actuarial science with the Research Centre Insurance, Department Accountancy, Finance and Insurance at the Faculty of Economics and Business, KU Leuven; Professor Runhuan Feng, PhD, FSA, CERA Feng who is a Chair Professor in the School of Economics and Management in Tsinghua University; Mr Marco Mirabella who is the CEO of Ensuro, a decentralised reinsurance company licensed by the Bermuda Monetary Authority; and Dr. Rodrigue Kazzi who is a postdoctoral fellow at the KU Leuven jointly working with Prof. Dhaene. 3.   A teaching session with panellists from institutions across the globe including Dr. Shirley Huang from UNSW Sydney, our Professor Patrick Weke from the University of Nairobi, Professor Diana Skrzydlo from the University of Waterloo, Professor Kevin Liu from UNSW, Professor Professor Sure Mataramvura from the University of Cape Town among others. 4.   Round table discussions on critical challenges facing Africa across all key areas of insurance and finance. Professor Jerry Parwada is organising a round table on Africa’s lack of access to global capital markets and attendant excessive risk premium on its international funding. I’m proud because I remember this being simply an idea—it could have remained exactly that. But what’s beautiful is that action was taken.   That’s what I talk about in my book regarding momentum. You can have beautiful ideas, you can have beautiful plans, but until you put them into action, they remain just dreams.   The Academy’s ability to build a vision and then execute it is really quite special. Say I want to start a business or I want to write a book or I want to complete an IronMan race; if you say those things and do nothing then you may as well not.
