Our final day of #TAMC2024 was focused on looking ahead. We started with hearing from Eng. Millicent Alooh, HSC, PhD Student on being a biomedical engineer in a hospital setting. Then we broke up delegates into three different groups (Investment, Product, and Regulation), came up with priorities, and made a plan on how we can actually make those opportunities become a reality in the short-, medium-, and long-term. This means that we have the start of a work plan for the way forward in developing the #Africanmedtech sector! Wambui Nyabero Robert Karanja, PhD Sewu-Steve T. #TAMC2024 Day 2 recap! We started by hearing from Naom Monari, the founder of BENA CARE LTD, who shared about their home care services and their desire for excellent, locally manufactured equipment. Dr Stanley Aruyaru, MBChB, MMed, FCS, FACS spoke about medtech from the clinician's perspective and Watu Wamae PhD Econ examined the role of the private sector. During a day focused on regulation, our first panel session walked us through an overview of the current status of regulation in Africa. We then broke out into our two tracks, discussing topics like frugal innovation, regulation of medtech, the experience of Tanzania's startup association, intellectual property, and more. We ended the day by celebrating the many successes of Drop Access Limited, last year's winner of the TAMC startup competition! Their founder, Norah Magero, shared about the boost that winning the award last year provided and the amazing things they have done as a business over the last several years. Finally, we heard from Dr. Salsawit Tesfaye Yigrem, one of East Africa Biodesign's current fellows on the patient journey, needs-based innovation, and the importance of being obsessed with the patient's experience in healthcare. Thank you for all of you who participate and we look forward to a successful final day ahead! Wambui Nyabero Robert Karanja, PhD Sewu-Steve T.
