"The Future of Africa’s Health is Bright!" – Dr. Githinji Gitahi. Last Friday, while receiving the 2024 CEO of the Year Award, Dr Githinji Gitahi delivered a message of #hope and confidence in the #power of civil society: "With new CBOs and NGOs rising strong and being recognised, I am confident that the health and future of Africa remain bright." Dr Gitahi’s words underscore his belief in the transformative impact of community-driven organisations—on the frontlines, meeting the needs of underserved populations, advocating for equity, and driving pro-poor health #policies. As civil society continues to fill gaps, reach remote areas, and champion inclusive health systems, they remain pivotal in building a healthier, more equitable Africa. Let’s support and amplify this incredible work. 💪🏽 #AfricaRising #HealthForAll World Health Organization Women On Boards NGO Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Africa CDC Y-ACT Youth In Action United Nations UNFoundation Pfizer Johnson & Johnson DP World (The footage is provided courtesy of Royal Media Services Limited- Citizen TV)

Exciting times in Nairobi last week at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation convening on pathways to health equity! The event brought together over 100 leaders and experts to prioritize solutions for improving health outcomes for mothers and children, with a focus on tackling the social determinants of health. I also had the pleasure of connecting with Dr. Githinji Gitahi, Group CEO of AMREF Health Africa, who delivered a powerful keynote speech, as well as other inspiring leaders from his incredible global leadership team: Desta Lakew, Lolem B. Ngong, and Jonathan Dutton. Together, we are building a learning case on the role of leadership, strategy, and transformation within Amref, the largest Africa-based international health development organisation. The case will explore: ▶️ How to build a corporate strategy and governance for an organization delivering health services and training to over 30 million people annually in 35 countries in Africa ▶️ How the strategy was shaped by six drivers of change, including the climate crisis, the AI boom in data and tech, regional conflict, and increasing urbanization ▶️ Why Amref decided to prioritise improving the livelihoods of women and young people (hint: they are the agents of change) ▶️ How a social science approach to organizational transformation and strategy enabled value and renewed pride. Insights from this experience will be synthesized into a written learning case and a podcast to be shared as part of ReD’s ‘Leading with Perspective’ series. We hope this will be inspiring to other leaders, companies, foundations, and NGOs. Exciting content, stay tuned! Thank you, Dr Githinji, Desta, Lolem and Jonathan. I look forward to our continued collaboration. ReD Associates #PathwaystoHealthEquity
