#Carbon Footprint Assessment
Managing GHG emissions helps to implement strategies to reduce emissions and minimize environmental impacts, foster transparency through detailed carbon emission report for consumers, improves compliance, builds trust while supporting global climate goals and enhance reputation and competitiveness, through integrated carbon reporting
#Steps for Conducting a Carbon Footprint Assessment
1. #Define Scope and Boundaries
Begin by determining the operational or organizational boundaries of the organization. Classify emissions into three categories:
Scope 1: Direct emissions – GHG from sources owned or controlled by the involved organisation (e.g., fuel combustion).
Scope 2: Indirect emissions from purchased energy.
Scope 3: Other indirect emissions from assets not owned or controlled by the reporting organization, but that the organization indirectly affects in its value chain, such as those from business travel, waste generation and employee commute.
2. #Set a Baseline Year
Select a baseline year for reference, ensuring the data collected is accurate and credible.
3. #Identify Emission Sources
List all greenhouse gas (GHG) emission sources, categorizing them under Scopes 1, 2, or 3.
4. #Collect Data
Gather activity data from sources such as fuel usage, electricity consumption, and waste generation. Consistency and accuracy are key.
5. #Select Emission Factors
Use reliable emission factors from credible sources like DEFRA, UNFCC or local government standards to calculate emissions.
6. #Calculate Emissions
Apply the selected emission factors to the activity data and sum emissions for each scope to determine the total.
7. #Verify Data Quality
Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and consistency of the data.
8- #Key Action Steps
Report Results: Present findings transparently.
Set Targets: Align reduction goals with global benchmarks, like the Paris Agreement.
Implement Strategies: Adopt renewable energy, enhance energy efficiency, engage in tree planting and pursue other reduction measures.
Regular Updates: Continuously refine data and improvement plans.
Communicate: Share progress through reports, websites, or stakeholder updates.
