  • The Myth of Gas as the Key to Africa's Development Fossil fuel giants have occupied sacred African lands for decades, pushing one-sided deals that have done little to develop the continent. Gas is no different. If these companies truly wanted to uplift Africa, they would have done so already - they’ve had over a century. So, what have fossil fuel corporations really brought to Africa? 🔥 Displacement: Entire communities have been uprooted in Nigeria, Tanzania, Uganda, and most notably Mozambique, where gas projects have fueled conflict. 💨 Pollution: Oil spills, gas flaring, and chemical waste from fossil fuel extraction have poisoned Africa’s rivers, contaminated farmland and released toxic pollutants leading to respiratory diseases, heart conditions, and premature deaths. 💰 Debt: #Gasprojects are locking African nations into financial burdens while profits flow elsewhere. Africa’s development can never come from elsewhere - especially not from those who have continuously locked Africa in cycles of dependence for their own benefit. Who is better placed to understand our issues and find workable solutions than us? 🔴 What to do next? Rise against #fossilfuel lies - it is our imperative, our moral obligation. It is time to adopt strategies that put Africans first - gas is not one of those strategies. Which is why we boldly say #DontGasAfrica ✊🏿

  • 🚨 You need to keep your eye on the Richards Bay LNG terminal in South Africa. South Africa just signed a 25-year deal to build its first LNG import terminal in Richards Bay. A major win for fossil fuel companies - but a major loss for communities and the environment. The terminal will bring in at least 2 million tons of LNG per year, with plans to increase to over 5 million tons. This locks South Africa into decades of gas dependence at a time when the world is moving towards renewables. The project is being pushed as an investment boost, with R7 billion promised. But what do communities get? Pollution and a worsening #climatecrisis. Who really benefits? The same playbook is being rolled out in other parts of South Africa. LNG terminals are being planned for Saldanha (Western Cape) and Ngqura (Eastern Cape)—all to support a 6,000 MW gas-to-power push. Gas is not a transition fuel. It’s a false solution that extends fossil fuel dependency, delays real #cleanenergy investments, and worsens the climate crisis. We cannot afford to be locked into another fossil fuel disaster. The Richards Bay LNG terminal is not development - it’s destruction. South Africa must invest in #renewables, not more #fossilfuel projects. #DontGasAfrica #StopLNG #ClimateJustice

  • When we show up, we show out. The fight for climate justice is about People Power ✊🏿 - communities standing together and demanding a just, #sustainablefuture. For too long, #fossilfuel corporations have exploited our lands, polluted our air, and broken their promises of prosperity. But we are not passive bystanders. We are organizers, activists, and change-makers. From the frontlines of extraction sites to the global stage, we are showing up and making our voices heard. Because real change doesn’t come from boardrooms it comes from people demanding accountability, justice, and a future free from #fossilfuels.

  • Investors are waking up to the risks of TotalEnergies’ LNG project in Mozambique. Despite @TotalEnergies' persistence, the reasons not to fund this project are only growing. From violence and displacement to environmental destruction and financial instability, it’s clear that this project is not just dangerous - it is unjustifiable. Communities on the ground are paying the price, while fossil fuel giants continue to push for profit. We stand firm in rejecting this destructive project. https://lnkd.in/eq5RGE4z

  • Big oil knew. 112 years ago evidence that fossil fuels were affecting the climate begin to emerge. What did big oil do then? Something that we are all too familiar with today: ignore the issue. Why? We don't know for sure but profits were likely a big part of it. Over and over again, big oil chooses destruction and profits over people. We say enough is enough! It is time to choose climate action!
