Representing Empower HER Initiative , our Director Nancy M Nyaleso recently took part in the "Techstars Startup Weekend" held in Johannesburg, an intensive workshop designed for young African entrepreneurs. This event that was hosted University of the Witwatersrand gathered innovative minds from over 13 countries, allowing them to enhance their skills and pitch their business ideas to experienced mentors and judges. Organized by Tshimologong Digital Innovation Precinct and Edinburgh Innovations , and a team of seasoned mentors, the workshop highlighted the significance of teamwork in providing exceptional training. During the sessions participants developed, validated, and showcased their business concepts to a panel of expert judges who challenged us with tough questions and provided invaluable feedback for our growth. This hands-on experience not only sharpened our ideas but also connected our team with a wider network of visionary peers. The Enterprise program by The University of Edinburgh emphasized the crucial role of collaboration in driving African innovation and progress, as well as the importance of diverse perspectives and practical learning in addressing real-world challenges.

We had the pleasure of hosting the team from ShiningHope for Communities (SHOFCO ) a grassroots initiative dedicated to driving significant change in urban slums by offering essential services to everyone, fostering community advocacy, and promoting education and leadership for women and girls founded by Kennedy Odede During our meeting, we took the opportunity to reflect on our own practices, assess our needs, and discuss our communities. We explored each organization's programs for potential collaboration and shared best practices. By the end of our time together, we walked away with fresh ideas to experiment with, innovative methodologies, and new approaches to our work. Truly, the journey of learning is endless!

The Female Health & Hygiene Accelerator (FHHA) First Bootcamp is Complete! We've kicked off this transformative journey with 10 innovative menstrual hygiene entrepreneurs, each working to tackle female health and hygiene challenges across Kenya, Uganda, and Ghana. 🇰🇪 🇺🇬 🇬🇭 It was a truly spiritual and emotional experience. Hearing the raw, personal stories of each entrepreneur, how they uncovered the deep-rooted problems in their communities and found ways to reach women at the very last mile, was nothing short of inspiring. We visited their workplaces, connected with the communities they serve, and saw firsthand the impact of their work. Over the last week, these change-makers participated in intense workshops, strategic mentoring, and impactful learning sessions designed to sharpen their business models and prepare them for scaling. 📈 This bootcamp is just the beginning of an 18-month journey where they’ll receive the support needed to become investment-ready and transform their innovations into profitable and scalable solutions.
