This statistic and the sheer existence of this day sadden me. Unfortunately 1/3 is innacurate. In my community of incredible, empowered women I would suggest that the numbers are 2/3 and certainly at some tables and in some areas of the world, 3/3. Let’s remember these stats are based on reported cases. The women in my world (myself included) did not report the violence but instead lied or kept it a secret out of fear…. Fear of death Fear of more violence Fear of family and friends passing judgement Fear of breaking up the family Fear of public humiliation Fear of abandonment Fear of destitution Fear of being called a fraud Fear of looking weak Fear of not being believed Fear of disappointing others The reasons women do not report are far and wide. Leaving isn’t always the easy answer - but LOVE is. Listen to people. Watch for signs. Read between the lines. Be the safe place where fear loses and LOVE wins. What abused women and women who have experienced acts of violence need most is for people to listen without knee jerk reactions and judgement. They need LOVE. If this kind of response was more common, more women would report the abuse or violence and seek help. Thank you Canadian Centre for Diversity and Inclusion (CCDI) for the work you do. #endviolenceagainstwomen #womensupportingwomen
Today, on November 25, we observe the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. Established by the United Nations in 1999, this day honours the legacy of the Mirabal sisters—courageous activists in the Dominican Republic who lost their lives in 1960 while resisting an oppressive regime. Their story symbolizes the resilience and strength of women standing against injustice. Globally, violence against women remains a critical issue, with 1 in 3 women experiencing violence in their lifetime. This day serves as a powerful reminder of our collective responsibility to address these injustices, support survivors, and work toward systemic change. By standing together, we can help create a world where every woman and girl lives free from violence, with the dignity and respect they deserve. On this #HumanRightsDay and the final day of the #16days of activism against GBV, we reflect on the urgent need to protect children from sexual exploitation, abuse, and harassment (SEA/H) in development projects. At BIC, we’ve developed this checklist outlining five key focus areas to help the The World Bank design safer projects for children. This tool serves as a practical guide to address child SEA/H since project design. 📄 Read more about the checklist and how it can make a difference below. #HumanRightsDay #16Days #ChildProtection #WorldBank #DevelopmentProjects #PSEA #ChildRights
Today is the final day of the UN Women 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence. BIC recently produced a toolkit for The World Bank to improve their project design and better address child SEA/H. Read more about the toolkit: https://lnkd.in/epTnJZSB

🌍Together Against Violence At Hemaiah Centre for Human Rights, we are proud to stand in solidarity with the global 16-day UN campaign to combat violence against women. This initiative is a call to action for individuals, communities, and institutions to break the silence, challenge harmful norms, and champion the rights and safety of women everywhere. In the Middle East, this issue demands urgent attention and meaningful dialogue. Therefore, women at Hemaiah have shared their insights and suggestions for combating violence against women in our region. Click the link below to read more. To reduce violence against women in Arab society, it is essential to address the stigma surrounding speaking out and create stronger support systems for women leaving abusive situations. Public awareness campaigns, such as promoting dialogue through community leaders, can create a cultural shift, promoting respect for women’s rights, advocating zero tolerance for violence and recognising warning signs of abuse. Therefore, we invite you to join the dialogue; what are the key steps to creating a safer, more equitable society? 🔗 https://lnkd.in/etKyJfSW

Today is International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, which marks the beginning of the 16 Days of Activism to End Gender-Based Violence. This year’s theme is: “UNITE! Invest to prevent violence against women and girls”. The campaign was started as a global initiative to raise awareness about the violence and discrimination facing women, girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ persons. Although gender-based violence can affect anybody, Indigenous women and girls are significantly more at-risk of being abused than others. During the next 16 days, join LFMO in advocating for the rights and empowerment of women, girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ persons across the Metis Nation. MachsomWatch stands at the intersection of truth and silence. We are 150 Israeli women volunteers who, since 2001, have dedicated ourselves to exposing the hidden realities of occupation. Our mission: to be the voice of the voiceless and the chroniclers of untold stories. At checkpoints and in occupied territories, where hope battles despair daily, thousands of narratives remain trapped. These aren't just stories; they are lifelines to understanding, tools for advocacy, and blueprints for a future where justice prevails. Through our unwavering commitment, we strive to break the silence and illuminate injustice. #VoicesBeyondCheckpoints #OccupationStories #HumanRightsDefenders #WomenForPeace #IsraelPalestineConflict #EndOccupation #HumanRightsWatch #PalestinianVoices #PeaceAndDignity #SocialJustice #EqualRights #WomenAdvocates #NonviolentResistance #OccupiedTerritories #CheckpointNarratives #PeaceInTheMiddleEast #StandWithPalestinians #HopeOverHardship #BreakingBarriers https://lnkd.in/d5dqqKyD
