Mission:To work for the economic and social empowerment of women, youth and men, and therefore the society, by supporting the enhancement and creation of sustainable enterprises and jobs. The Hand in Hand enterprise and job creation approach is based on a philosophy of self-help, providing training, skills and support to enable people living in poverty, particularly women, to build and sustain independent, market-based, economic activities. This provides for a higher level of income for them and their families, which in turn contributes to greater food security, better education for children, increased access to medicines and healthcare, improved housing and overall improved livelihoods. We work in four key stages: First we create community groups, made up of mainly women who support each other, save together and learn together. Then we train the group members to discover and develop small businesses and enterprises that make use of their skills and potential. Next we provide access to business start-up loans and finance, and the support across the group ensures that members who borrow them repay without difficulty, finally we help scale up their businesses by supporting them find a larger market, so they are able to optimize profits and to improve their competitiveness. Exciting News from Kisumu Today, Hand in Hand Eastern Africa proudly launched the Building Inclusive and Resilient Enterprises (BIRE) project in Kisumu. Funded by Hand in Hand Sweden and the Embassy of Sweden in Kenya, this 48-month project (2024-2028) aims to transform the lives of 29,740 participants, comprising 80% women, 40% youth, and 20% men. We are excited about the potential to develop 20,818 sustainable enterprises, improve beneficiaries' average incomes by over 100%, and create 31,227 jobs within the solid waste management and circular economy sectors. The event was graced by Judith Aluoch, County Executive Committee Member, and County Attorney Otieno Aluoka, alongside officials from the County Government Water, Climate and Natural Resources department, National Environmental Authority, and community resource persons. The meeting is revolving around Linkining the SMES to investors from the corporate and private sectors. Forming part of the meeting is an exhibition of entrepreneurs' products and services as a means generating highly targeted and relevant leads to potential customers and investors. Yesterday, our Hand in Hand Eastern Africa team had the privilege of attending a donor visit for the Circular Economy in the County Aggregation and Industrial Parks (CAIPS) Project. This visit, led by the project's donor, the Norwegian Government, in collaboration with partners FAO, IOM, Nyamira County Government, and UNIDO, was an excellent opportunity to showcase the progress and impact of our initiatives in Nyamira County. During the visit, our team, along with the donors and implementing partners, met with Governor Amos Nyaribo for a briefing on the project's progress and significance. We also visited members, groups, and cooperatives implementing the program, as well as the ongoing construction of the County Aggregation Industrial Parks. The CAIPS project is crucial in addressing environmental issues, minimizing waste, reducing resource dependency, and generating income from waste through the application of circular economy principles, specifically within the banana and leafy vegetables value chains. Connect with Augustinella Lenges member of Eseriani Women Group and beneficiary of #HiHEA's Right(s) Way Forward to Social and Economic Justice project under implementation in Narok County. Before meeting HiH EA, she faced severe animosity from her husband, which resulted in nursing physical injuries. However, after undergoing HIHEA's training on human rights and Advocacy, enterprise development and Gender Action Learning System (GALS) training methodology. Augustinella has made significant changes in her life. Currently, she successfully runs her own shop and engages various business activities with her husband. Thanks to the adoption of GALS methodology, that has helped address the power dynamics and inequality within their household. The training has not only resulted in behavioural change but also encouraged peer learning, as Augustinella has become a Champion for Gender and Advocacy, promoting these values within her home and the broader community through a participatory approach. Yesterday, Hand in Hand Eastern Africa had the privilege of hosting the Sida team and Hand in Hand Sweden in Kajiado. The purpose of the donor visit was to review the progress of the "Right(s) Way Forward to Social and Economic Justice" project, a three-year project launched in 2023 across Kajiado and Narok counties. This project seeks to strengthen and empower women and men advocating for women's right's through advocacy network. The visit was an opportunity to provide feedback and report on the impact of the project as it nears completion, with input from both beneficiaries and donors.
