  • "At IAESTE Kenya, we believe in more than just student exchange. It's about creating meaningful connections and lasting memories. Recently, our local committee in Nyeri organised an exciting game night, where members bonded over fun and laughter. We also had a chance to visit a nearby dam, followed by a scenic hike—an adventure that brought us closer together and showcased the beauty of nature. 🌍💫 Ian Kigen Moses Kangethe Rose Maina Daniel Muthui Protus Kigen #IAESTEKenya #StudentExchange #GameNightFun #NatureHikes #MakingMemories"

The International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience (IAESTE) DeKUT Club Leaders Moses Mwangi, Ian Kigen and Rose Maina accompanied by the Head of the International Office,DeKUT Dr. Ann Kirugumi (also IAESTE Kenya National Secretary) yesterday participated in a Stakeholders Forum for the review and validation of the Kenya Foreign Policy organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kenya.   The Forum was attended by various stakeholders who included Universities students and staff, Foreign Missions, Development Agencies, Civil Society Organisations, Ministry Officials among other key stakeholders.   Some of the input given by IAESTE Club members in the forum included enhancement of educational diplomacy in the country by support of educational exchanges in financial aid, assistance in visa acquisition and other support mechanisms for students before and during their studies abroad   The invitation to this Forum came after an initial Virtual Forum held on 7th November where the students recommended among other things: 1.The revision of the academic curriculum in all levels to accommodate international studies and emergent issues. 2. Increased engagement of youth in international forums to serve as learning opportunities, and combating ignorance when it comes to diplomacy and international relations. 3. Creation and promotion of regional exchange semester programs and internships to enhance relations with our neighbours in East Africa. 4. Development of a funding program to support regional and international internships. 5. Setting up of Kenyan Cultural Centres abroad to serve as hubs to expose our culture and language(s) on a global scale, similar to the Chinese Confucius Institutes and German Goethe Institutes. 6.Collaboration with well-structured bodies like IAESTE and AIESEC which promote Internationalisation through exchange internships 7.Inclusion of foreign language studies in all higher learning institutions to promote equal access to international opportunities. • Our Local Committee at Meru (MUST LC) recently had the pleasure of hosting three interns: Tim Schneider and Fiona Tanner from Germany, and Linn Waaler from Norway. They actively participated in exciting projects and made valuable contributions to our organization. Additionally, they had the opportunity to tour the country and experience the beauty of Kenya. We are always delighted to welcome interns in Kenya, as they bring fresh perspectives and enrich our cultural landscape. • Moses is a Mechatronic Engineering student from DeKUT who had an enriching internship experience in Merseburg, Germany, through the IAESTE exchange program. At Merseburg University of Applied Sciences, he worked in the mobile robotics laboratory, gaining hands-on experience with the ROS framework. This opportunity allowed him to explore the functions and components of mobile robots, as well as contribute to the development of key systems, including sensors, environment perception, and trajectory planning. His time there not only enhanced his technical skills but also broadened his understanding of robotics in an international context. #outgoingstudents #mechatronicengineering #iaesteinternships #studentexchange #iaestekenya

  • October is Depression Awareness Month, an annual month-long campaign dedicated to communicating the importance of understanding depression and mental health. This month reminds us that mental health is prevalent and non-discriminate against chains; it can touch anyone, of any age, background or circumstance. Open discussion of the subject is our best weapon to demystify depression, and make seeking help seem more attainable for those who are struggling. Remember, asking for help is not a sign of weakness. Learn the signs and symptoms of depression, share resources with your friends, family or school and advocate for mental health this October (and every month). We want to come together and create a society where we all support each other in reaching out for mental health help. #depressionawarenessmonth #mentalhealth #iaestekenya
