Yesterday, we attended a significant meeting with carbon community leaders to strengthen collective bargaining power and advocate for equitable carbon credit benefit sharing. As a follow-up to the United Leaders Sacco (Northern Communities Carbon Forum), the gathering celebrated achievements in FPIC processes, project agreements, transparent information sharing, and benefit-sharing formulas. Moving forward, communities will focus on drafting new agreements, enhancing training on carbon regulations, ensuring people-centered projects, and expanding advocacy efforts for sustainable and equitable development. Under the WEEHS project, the first activity which is the review of the Koija bylaws has been successfully completed. The communities have expressed their deep appreciation for the impactful work done by IMPACT, recognizing its vital role in their development and well-being. The process saw active participation from community leadership, opinion leaders, women, and Morans, who contributed positively to strengthening and refining the bylaws. Additionally, those previously unfamiliar with the bylaws had an opportunity to review the document and gain a better understanding of its content. IMPACT Kenya continues to make strides in the validation of the Il Ngwesi management plan. So far, the process has engaged communities in Chumvi, Ethi, Nadungoro/Lokusero, Sang'a, and Ngarendare neighborhoods. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with community members expressing their gratitude and appreciation for the collaborative efforts.
