Dignifying the Livelihoods of Farmers

About us

We are a dynamic non profit organisation committed to capacity building, building resilient instruments, Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI), and the application of behavioral science to empower women and youth in agriculture through grounded practices. Our evidence-based approach strategically integrates these pillars, aiming to uplift smallholder farmers' livelihoods across Africa. Our interventions encompass a spectrum of impactful areas, including leveraging social capital, water infrastructure interventions, psycho-social support, teaching good agricultural practices, safeguarding yields across the value chain, and incorporating regenerative agriculture. We leverage behavioral science and human-centered design to inform our capacity-building initiatives, ensuring they are effective and sustainable. Operating from our headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya, our reach extends to the lower eastern region of Kenya as we collaborate with smallholder farmers. By forging strategic partnerships, we adapt global best practices to local contexts, creating resilient, nuanced solutions that positively shape the future for generations to come.

  • 🌍🌱 Today is World Soil Day! The theme this year, “Caring for Soils: Measure, Monitor, Manage,” resonates deeply with our mission at Itanya Africa Group (IAG). Healthy soils are the foundation of sustainable agriculture, food security, and climate resilience—and we’re committed to empowering smallholder farmers to nurture this vital resource. Through our regenerative agriculture programs, we teach farmers: ✅ Measuring soil health: Assessing soil organic matter and nutrients to understand its potential. ✅ Monitoring changes: Regularly tracking improvements from practices like composting and cover cropping. ✅ Managing sustainably: Adopting techniques such as syntropic agroforestry, minimal tillage, and natural fertilizers to restore soil vitality. In Machakos County, these practices are transforming barren lands into productive, thriving ecosystems—building resilience for farmers and ensuring a sustainable future for our planet. Join us in celebrating the soil that sustains us all. Let’s continue to care for it! #WorldSoilDay #RegenerativeAgriculture #SoilHealth #SustainableFarming #ClimateResilience

  • 🌱 Regenerative Agriculture in Action at Our Demo Farm! 🌱 Since July, we’ve been hard at work composting at our demo farm, teaching farmers the value of turning organic waste into nutrient-rich compost. The results? A staggering 90 bags of compost, each weighing 90kg! This compost has been used this season across the farm, enriching the soil, boosting crop health, and showcasing the power of regenerative agriculture in practice. By closing the loop on organic waste, we’re not only growing healthier crops but also nurturing healthier soils for long-term sustainability. Together, we’re building resilience and ensuring a greener future for our farmers and their families. #RegenerativeAgriculture #SoilHealth #Sustainability #FarmingForTheFuture #Composting

  • 🌧️ Rain Brings Hope to Our Farms! 🌱 We’re thrilled to share that the recent rains have filled the water pans we constructed, creating a vital water reserve for our farmers! These pans will sustain crops and livestock long after the rainy season, ensuring resilience during drier months. 💧 This is the power of investing in sustainable water solutions for our community. But the work doesn’t stop here. Together, we can construct more water pans to support more farmers and safeguard food security. Join us in making a lasting impact—partner with us today to empower communities through sustainable water infrastructure. 📩 Reach out to learn how you can get involved! #WaterForFarms #ClimateResilience #SustainableFarming #CommunityImpact #cop29 #fundraising

🌍 True Effects of Climate Change on African Communities As COP29 nears, as IAG we urge us to see beyond “net effects” and face the realities on the ground: -Lost Livelihoods: Farmers face erratic rains, risking food security and incomes. -Water Scarcity: Dried rivers force women and girls to walk farther, impacting education and safety. -Health Risks: Heat and shifting climates spread diseases, straining rural health resources. -Migration Pressures: Families leave home seeking livable conditions, stressing cities. Local groups like Itanya Africa Group are responding firsthand. It is important to uplift our voices for policies and funding that protect vulnerable communities and drive lasting solutions. #RoadToCOP29 #ClimateAction #AfricanVoices
