This past weekend, I had the privilege of joining the #Unison #Champions event in #Abogeta #West Ward, #Meru #County, where the vibrant youth showcased their incredible talents—from singing, dancing and rapping to modeling! 🎤💃 But beyond the performances, what truly stood out was their enthusiasm for innovations—something we, the innovators at iTATU, are excited to explore with them going forward. 🚀 iTATU is a #student #centric industry-academia platform for fostering innovations and entrepreneurship, leveraging talents drawn from diverse networks of communities across Kenyan higher learning institutions and industries. I was accompanied by #BentaWairimu, Meru University of Science and Technology (MUST) Campus Rep, who has been a driving force in making Meru one of the most active iTATU communities. A special shoutout to #CenaKanana, CMO of BnB Electrix, and Kamau Denis, Secretary General of Waka Africa, who are focused on carbon trading and mental health. 🌍💡 The event was further graced by the area MCA and South Imenti MP, who sent their teams to enjoy and support the event with us. We're pleased to share the success of the Industry-Academia Platform (iTATU) Annual Event, part of the Kenya Industry and Entrepreneurship Project (KIEP). This year's theme, "Enabling Industrialization through Open Innovation," showcased incredible collaborations between higher education students and industries, driving Kenya's industrial growth. Key Highlights: 🔹 Over 12 innovative solutions presented by student teams addressing real-world industry challenges. 🔹 Solutions ranged from ideation to prototypes ready for commercialization, including green hydrogen mobility, micro-dairies for smallholder farmers, and a traceability system for mango processors. 🔹 Expert panels discussed building a sustainable open innovation ecosystem for Kenya's future. The iTATU platform fosters a dynamic environment for students, industry professionals, and stakeholders to collaborate, exchange ideas, and co-create solutions. A key message at the closure of a 6-month Innovators programme by iTATU I pitched a solution for Oil to green mobility (hydrogen vehicles) for Mobius Motors regardless of my field of specialization. Commitment, the Innovation SPARK, passion for problem-solving, knowledge sharing, and readiness to learn were all it took! #SDG11 #Innovation #Socialimpact When establishing such programmes, a broad selection criteria is vital. From primary school children to PhD students, leave it open to ALL, irrespective of faculties and knowledge background. I had the distinct pleasure to mentor a team in the iTATU Innovation Challenge solving mobility using Hydrogen. ✅️ I learned how to step outside my frame of reference aka comfort zone and push through. ✅️ I learned how to push teams to a goal and ensure they attain it. ✅️ I learned that people make choices and I cannot change them if they don't want to, that's not on me. I watched the team morph and deliver so it was an extreme pleasure to watch Maryam Wangeshi rise to occasion and pitch their idea.
