Today, Dr. Eliud Kireger, Director General of KALRO, hosted Dr. Sandra Milach, CGIAR’s Chief Scientist, and Prof. Appolinaire Djikeng, Director General of ILRI & Director of CGIAR Livestock-Based Systems. In his capacity as Alternate Member of the CGIAR System Council and Active Observer to the Integrated Partnership Board, Dr. Kireger engaged with the visiting leaders to explore strategies for strengthening research collaboration between CGIAR and KALRO. The discussion focused on the partnership towards advancing agricultural research, fostering innovation, and building sustainable food systems resilient to climate change. Theme: “Advancing agricultural innovation for resilient food systems and sustainable livelihoods”

The Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO) is participating in the EPIC Africa Annual (M28) Consortium Meeting from January 10-14 at Ngong Hills Hotel, Nairobi. The meeting is centered around energy planning and modeling, with a focus on the integrated assessment of the climate-land-energy-water nexus in Sub-Saharan Africa. Case studies from the Volta and Tana River Basins are being explored. This event brings together experts, policymakers, and stakeholders to explore strategic solutions for governance, resource management, and climate resilience. Key discussions include scaling climate-resilient investments in renewable energy, optimizing land, energy, and water resources through open-source modeling tools, and developing a digital engagement tool for long-term infrastructure planning. Today, the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO) hosted State Corporations under the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development for a significant meeting to formalize the signing of the performance contracts for the 2024/2025 financial year. The event, held at KALRO headquarters, was officiated by the Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture and Livestock Development, Dr. Andrew Mwihia Karanja. He was joined by Principal Secretaries Hon. Jonathan Mueke of the State Department for Livestock and Dr. Kipronoh Rono of the State Department for Agriculture. KALRO was represented by its Board Chairman, Dr. Thuo Mathenge, BoD Member, Mr. Johana Cheruyiot, and Deputy Director General for Crops, Dr. Felister Makini, who actively participated in the signing ceremony. Performance Contracts are a vital tool for promoting accountability and excellence in public service delivery. Through this agreement, KALRO and other state corporations will contribute to achieving key national priorities, including enhancing food security, reducing the cost of living, creating employment opportunities, and fostering inclusive economic growth. Over this WAAW Week, the Veterinary Science Research Institute showcased impactful research pieces on One Health, Antimicrobial resistance in animal production environment, food safety during the WAAW symposium.
