Creating a #circulareconomy for plastic where it never becomes waste or pollution
About us
Kenya Plastics Pact (KPP) is an ambitious and collaborative initiative that brings together businesses, supporters, the government, researchers, NGOs, civil society, informal waste sector players, and other stakeholders across the whole plastics value chain to transform the current linear plastics system into a circular economy for plastics, where plastic never becomes waste or pollution. The pact was established in October 2021 by Sustainable Inclusive Business, with support from WRAP - the UK-based global environmental NGO and the MAVA Foundation. It is the second in Africa after the South African Plastics Pact and the 12th in the world to join the Ellen MacArthur Foundation Global Plastics Pacts Network. The pacts mission is to: 1. Eliminate all problematic and unnecessary plastic items. 2. Innovate to ensure that the plastics we need are reusable and recyclable 3. Circulate all plastic items we use to keep them in the economy and out of the environment. All stakeholders involved sign up to a joint set of targets, ensuring that this collaboration will drive significant change by 2030. KPP targets to: 1. Eliminate unnecessary or problematic single-use plastic packaging items through redesign, innovation, and reuse delivery models. 2. 100% of plastic packaging is reusable or recyclable. 3. 40 % of plastic packaging is effectively recycled. 4. 15% average recycled content across all plastic packaging.

Amidst the ongoing calls to reduce, reuse, recycle and return, you might wonder about the necessity of packaging. While some types, like plastics, have drawbacks, packaging plays a crucial role in our daily lives. That’s why there’s a growing demand for packaging designed for recycling—to support the zero waste movement and make our planet healthier! As a producer, how are you making sustainable choices with your packaging? #PAKPRODrivingCircularity #JointheCulture #SustainablePackaging

We successfully convened the Kenya Plastic Pact (KPP) explorative strategic hybrid meeting for 2025, bringing together all KPP members along with our strategic partner, WRAP, represented by Talya Shalev, International Partnerships Manager. This collaborative discussion aimed to review the accomplishments of 2024 and to establish a strategic plan for the upcoming year. The Kenya Plastic Pact comprises a diverse array of organizations from throughout the plastics value chain, united in their efforts to tackle the systemic challenges of plastic waste management and pollution. We sincerely appreciate the commitment of our members and supporters over the years in working toward the four KPP 2030 roadmap targets: 1. Eliminating unnecessary or problematic single-use plastic packaging items through redesign, innovation, and reusable delivery models. 2. Ensuring 100% of plastic packaging is reusable or recyclable. 3. Achieving a 40% effective recycling rate for plastic packaging. 4. Incorporating an average of 15% recycled content across all plastic packaging. #KenyaPlasticPact #KPP2030RoadMap Edgar Mulei Eric Guantai George Ireri Akshay Shah Silafrica Salome Ichaminya Majid Al Futtaim Richard Kainika Ravichandran Muthu Denis Kiplagat Bennit Odhiambo Mr. Green Trading Africa Kenya Ltd.
