Circular Economy site visit was an eye-opening look at how sustainable innovation is taking shape right here in Kenya. Organized by Sustainable Inclusive Business Kenya – the knowledge center of Kenya, this visit took us through four incredible pioneers at Magana Light Industries: Loop Pet Food , Grounded Africa, Greenspoon | B Corp 🌍 , and BasiGo . Each organization is leading the way in sustainability, showing us how a circular economy can thrive across different industries, from pet food to transport! Loop Pet Food showed us their commitment to sustainability through innovative pet nutrition – creating plant- and insect-based dog food free from preservatives and additives. With 20% of global meat going toward pet food, Loop’s use of black soldier fly larvae as protein is a game-changer, reducing waste and carbon impact. And with sustainable packaging, they’re truly making pet food good for pets and the planet. Grounded Africa impressed us with eco-friendly cleaning products made from safe, biodegradable ingredients like coconut and sunflower oils. From sourcing local ingredients to their solar-powered, green manufacturing processes, they’re setting a high standard for sustainable production. They’ve even partnered with recycling champions like Mr. Green Trading Africa Kenya Ltd. and Dentex Industries LTD to close the loop on waste. Greenspoon | B Corp 🌍 is reshaping how we shop sustainably in Kenya. Their online store offers eco-conscious groceries, and they’re committed to delivering them in an environmentally responsible way, with a fleet that includes EVs and e-bikes. It’s an inspiring example of how retail can prioritize environmental responsibility from sourcing to delivery. BasiGo is revolutionizing transportation with electric buses designed to be accessible, efficient, and climate-friendly. Their vision of clean, green public transport is a bold step toward making a positive impact on Kenya’s public transport sector and reducing emissions. This visit reinforced the incredible potential of the circular economy to transform industries for a sustainable future. From sourcing and manufacturing to transport and food, these businesses are setting powerful examples of what’s possible with a commitment to the environment. Proud to witness these efforts firsthand and looking forward to seeing them scale!
